    Hello all.

The release of Reason 11 and 12 by R2R was a monumental and very welcome breakthrough for many.

R2R had previously said they wouldn’t drop Reason DAW till all Rack Extensions were curated, however, since the release we’ve seen very few (in respect of the amount of REs that exist) released to compliment their amazing work.

It’s been funny watching the releases of UVI bank and how much more they seem to be in demand than REs. I mean it’s funny as in it shows reason studios that despite their cash grab reason+ nonsense and their “fuck you, comply” price hike for perpetual users, that people care more about a ROMPLER than their full “DAW”.

Reason studios continue to piss off their users with their massive push to subscription and their price hike of perpetual licenses (which they conveniently failed to mention in their new transparency roadmaps), they even made a big deal of a sample pack they released as a gift called “simmer down”, which could be seen as a sly dig at the naysayers.

I wonder if we’ll see a big wave of REs anytime soon. I know a few long time users who are switching to the R2R release as they are done with the company, but limited as so many REs are missing.

we realise it’s contentious. Warez should be try before you buy, but I know a few folks who see it as a massive fuck you to a company that over the past two years at least have shit on their long term users (read: investors), even being snarky and condescending on social media discussions.

what’s other peoples thoughts on all this? Anyone else waiting on a re wave? Which REs you particularly interested in? Are you a reason user and do you feel the company have taken a turn for the worse like the folks I’ve spoken to?

The only one I’m really interested in is Reason Drums, I’m not sure if it’s called that exactly but it’s their acoustic drum kit

Yea, Reason Drumkits, it’s fairly decent. Not as deep as some of the big hitters out their in drum vst world, but it’s streamlined and with some heavy comp and eq it sounds nice.. Hope you get to try it some day

But how can we know if there will ever be a Reason RE wave? There has already been a big wave between September and October. Maybe for you legit Reason users these extensions are important, but obviously Falcon is of paramount importance compared to a DAW. Pro Tools and UVI Falcon (UVI Soundware) have been every musician's big dreams for 15 years now

Yea I know, just been wondering about it. I don’t expect anything. Probably have all I really need anyway, just wondering how others felt about reason. The wave was good, synapse REs etc. just wondering if anyone else was on lookout for more, i how people, users and non users, feel about their recent practices if following (cynically releasing an unfinished product with r12, failing to meet peomises on roadmaps, and desperately trying to push everyone to subscription model)

I would love to see another wave of extensions, especially synths and players. What i definitely don't want to see more is another ton of cv editors.

I’ve tried it on an old reason + trial and quite liked it. I do have superior drummer and addictive drums which are probably better overall but it wasn’t bad actually for putting quick demos down, and got some very usable sounds anyway

With REs and combinator 2 even if you don’t use daw, the rack is something really special. Just can’t stand them these days as a company.

same. Put a pulveriser on it, crank up squeeze, little distortion, dial back wet dry an increase volume out and it can sound real good.

I think Reason is a good DAW, and R2R has done an amazing job, but the thing I frankly don't like is the not ability to install RE Extensions on an external SSD drive.

That’s a good point. There are some guides online about using symlinks to achieve this. Had to do it myself as yea, it’s a stupid limitation.

just symlink them, it works fine. I have them "installed" in default folder then symlink it to my SSD even back on the legit Reason.

haha, Ryan seems like a nice guy, but I find their Schtick tedious imho. One of my favourite livestreams was right after they announced reason+ and they were sweating it as users kicked up shit in the live stream comments. Bless them, but they’ve really treated their long term users as mugs these past 12 months or so.
