Two sides to this, if you use licensed music (as in loops, vocal stings etc) without said license you can be done for that. But if you use pirated software to do this then you can't. Drum hits are a grey area, but I've not ever heard someone being sued for a just snare hit.

Think about this way: If I pirate Office and write a best selling novel, Microsoft can sue me for pirating Office, but in no way they own what I wrote using it.

Same thing if I break into a studio and steal a MiniMoog, write a hit song using and recording it. I can be done for Breaking and entering, Theft, maybe deprivation of income, but at no point people own the song that I wrote.

Yeah, that's it. A company the size of NI would have enough stats to show what people really use and this is probably not it.

All in all this smells like work of a recently recruited product manager/marketing guy who wants results quick.

Well today has been a bearer of bad news. I was getting along with Massive X for a few months now. I guess I might have to replace Massive X as well. Even though I think that Massive X is high quality synth, it just sounds great out the box.

Apisonic Labs - Speedrum has me nicely covered instead of Battery nowadays. So much lighter, simpler to use and has great FX. Totally worth the price which isn't even that high to begin with. I even keep the light free version around in case I want an even lighter version with no FX.

these products will need a12 month keygen if you follow this mode of registration.
it look like a security test with small products.

seems like a lot of you are jumping to conclusions. just because they are offering a subscription model for a few products plus a stripped down package of presets and libraries does not mean they are abandoning the existing model of purchasing the license to those products.

kontakt 6 is still available - actually on sale for $199.50 (less than half price). if there was a way to use cracked libraries with a legit version of kontakt, i'd buy it right now.

Greedy Companies and corporations don't want you to own anything at all anymore, they just want you to lease everything you use.

if you understand how software licensing works you know that we never actually own any of the software that we buy. you only own a license to use it, and that license is almost always revocable. renting or leasing software just takes that a step further by making the software unusable if you stop paying rent.

That's just splitting hairs, isn't it? Sure, the software I own is licensed, but I've paid once for it and it will run forever on a computer that theoretically could run forever. I've paid say, $400 once, but as subscription, I'd be shelling out $10 a month to the 99999...th power.

What about upgrades and improvements? Really. We've reached that point of diminished returns probably ten+ years ago already with audio. There's nothing that's gonna improve sound or make better music while the weakest link in the chain is still the human ear and brain.

Incremental improvements in cpu speed... I understand we're pretty much getting at the limits of miniaturization before detrimental quantum effects take hold... may get you more power for running plugs without freezing tracks, but that's all.

When NI got bought out I posted article links to WHO the new owner was, but it was deleted because it was too 'political'..If you want to find out who is behind this company Izotope/NI, follow the money and look at his/their history. it's a shame I can't provide more info on here as it affects all our rights and privacy. All I can say is, drop them and don't look back. I put up all my NI plugins for sale on this site a few days ago as I saw the writing on the wall already.

NI went to shit a long time ago. Vote with your $ and fuck em. I don't need them to make art.

Companies like Native Instruments (or Reason Studios for example) these days rely heavily on money from investors. They put a good amount of money into those companies and after some time want some reward. Therefore the companies have to come up with ideas how to make money - much money so that the investement can be returned or otherwise the investor will eventually cancel the participation - so no more money. Reason studios went the subscription model route so does Native Instruments now. Somebody must have calculated a business model which states that subscription is a good model to make money fast. I do not think so.... Let's see what will happen with both companies in the near future.

On the other hand, subscription can be a good legit way to "try before you buy" as long as you don't have to autosubscribe to a 1/2/3 years plan.

I'm saying this from personal experience, surely I'm not the only one this happened to?

Granted this was a few years ago, but I installed the NI service central or whatever to get their Replika plugin for free, but when I ran it, it found my k'ed versions of Massive and Absynth and listed them as "trials". Next time I opened those plugins in my daw... boom.. deactivaated.

Not arguing with you on this. It was the fact that you missed the point of the post you were answering to, that I found somewhat funny. : ) Peace.

I found strange that I could run warez along side their center too, I expected to be kicked out, but nothng happened. Actually, I just realized that I had Kontakt Portable installed for a year now and still no issues.
