It takes a lot of experience to code in juce. Not easy.

    That's kinda true,
I have never listened music in any device that wasn't at least Transistor based,
or maybe even IC based, other than maybe an old-ass radio in the late 80's or something..

I have experienced Super-8 films on manual moviola tho,
or Vinyl, Cassettes, AM/MW/FM Radio, Analog/UHF TV..

However we're still Experiencing the wonders of Analog audio/tech every time we listen to Old music,
or any music made with analog/vintage equipment..

It all depends on where you draw the line,
Are vinyl or cassette retro enough?
And what about original print, vs modern reissue, or remaster?

Are modern remasters of analog/vintage made music still analog (as for the Source material)?
Or do they loose their true analogness the moment they're digitized/remastered?

Is my remastered digital copy of Kind of Blue any less Analog because it has been Remastered with modern tools?

It's a bit like Theseus ship paradox.. :winker:

Upgraded sampling techniques, better phase, more accurate compression time responses and more, just better sonic footprint.
They would probably say better cpu handling as well but this is debatable.

I can't understand why people often say that AA needs to optimize code for CPU efficiency and lower latency. How do they understand that code is not good enough? What do they compare to? There are no other VVKT plugins from another plugin manufacture to compare. But If we look at IK multimedia Tape series that is based on dynamic convolution, we see that these plugins are also CPU heavy. Sometimes more heavy than Nebula tape programs.
I know only one person who knows exactly what is going on inside AA plugins and can tell us how good AA plugins are done in terms of CPU efficiency.
@Prinz Eugen can you tell us about it and end all the debate?
You tell recently that "some AA tasks are performed as superbly as possible!". Does this concern CPU efficiency too?

Personally, I want the plugins to be as good as possible and I don't care if they need more CPU power. When I see that some new plugins use only 0.1% CPU, I wonder if plugin manufacture tries to make it as good as possible or they decide to simplify it because they think that if the plugin will use 3% then people will complain about it on the internet?

It depends on the workflow, for instance if you are using channel strips and a channel strip is using 7-10% of your CPU and you have to add it to 15 or so tracks you can already see how CPU usage is a huge limiting factor (like try Sand by AA and if you use compressor, EQ and preamp modules then prepare your CPU for some torture lol). Imo, AA sounds great but not enough to justify its limitations it imposes (yes I know all dynamic convolution plugins are on the heavy side but I don't think the sound they produce makes a huge difference).

VVKT consumes a lot of CPU
and it depends on the length and number of kernels.
    (Regardless of code optimization)

Than More legh => less ripple, more accurate resulting magnitude.
more kernels => More harmonix, мore reverb reflections ... etc.

    This is all quite justified,
and there is no more accurate technology at the moment. To calculate such a filter/reverb in algo, you will need machine learning and much more resources than VVKT....)

Neural DSP could add something interesting to the game as their sampling is different from AA and their stuff sounds phenomenal.

When I make a salad, I always add a little olive oil and basil,
it goes well with soft Chanakh cheese and tomatoes. This salad is great for a hearty breakfast)

With AA technology CPU load can be decrease only one way - by shortening kernel length, as they did in all Aqcua's.
That explain why Nebula Library's sounds waaaaay better (of course in the blind test with same volume).

Nebula sounds good yea, but when done right.

I would really like to see what sonic difference a 50GB or more mastering compressor/eq would make.

What do you use on your vst synths to make them sound closer to analog?

Just experiment with what you have. I like the sound of tube preamps, and also a hint of tube EQ with the dials hardly moved, so more of a pass-through. Let me know if you find anything that sounds good!

Finally tried the Tim P RCA Ra6. What i hear is a more liveliness, less static than El Rey, it has more movement, excitement, also less harsh. No bass bump means this is more useful.
Very good plugin, especially together with the preamp and clipper. I love it.
This song on YT featuring the RA6 is also an excellent example.

Anyone tried the AA Desert comp? EQ is weird but juicy, but the compressor is something special.
Fiddly, takes some time to get it right because it just jumps all over the place but once you dial it in. Something special.

I just wish they'd implement full midi mapping for N4!
