Well, I tried it from the download provided sometime ago on sister site. And although it is a big library well suited for EDM it's just not for me. I don't use it anymore (I prefer UVI EVERY time over Nexus - much more versatile and interesting sounds). Nexus pricing is insane high and there are many similar presets in the library. And the UI update for 99 dollars is a joke. I am glad that I didn't have to buy this and regret.

 

Just so you guys know, mainly is Manuel Schleis (Vengeance) and not reFX that decides how bad to screw valuable customers, ReFX was a better company to their customers before NEXUS. Again, the guys to blame are ----> Manuel Schleis (reFX-Vengeance) and Rene Keilwerth (for Vengeance products) and as much I respect their knowledge and talent in general, that much I hate their cutthroat business decisions. Customers complaining over and over for many years over Nexus and all the Vengeance products but they just don't listen, so many times I personally saw disrespectful replies mostly on KVR and Facebook showing Arrogance.
And yes, I paid for their products, not a 12 year old EDM producer here. (by the way nothing wrong with all the 12 year old EDM producers, I was probably just like them once)... Happy holidays

 

this update is one of the biggest jokes of the year

 

Sure it's working very well for them and nobody is forced to buy this update from them but the company's attitude is somewhat .... Meh!

Just wanted to share my experience:
Due to nature of my work I decided to upgrade to version 4. Tested it thoroughly last night. The update is actually pretty ok - loading time is almost instant, loading presets is even faster and smooth.
GUI is crystal clear and updated layout is easy to organize/navigate/search. The things I like is that you can much easily separate layers from loaded preset and I manipulate things further. I think it's one step *closer* to Avenger in that way. FX window, new effects and arpeggiator are providing more flexibility.
Included new ROM Extension 3 has some cool sounds, but I think they are all gathered from various existing expansions.
Loading previous projects made with Nexus 2 & 3 are without problems. Seems like they made it all backward compatible is it should.
CPU load is just fine. No issues with 25 instances on my i9-9900k/64GB RAM.

Now on the bad sides:
Is it MAJOR update worth 99 bucks? Absolutely no. I think it should be free for existing owners considering reFX has high prices already.
Is it necessary to upgrade? No. If you stick with version 3 and plan to use your purchased expansions you'll be just fine. I decided to upgrade because I work with several colleagues and we all must be in sync when exchanging projects.
Is it bad that latest expasions are compatible with Nexus 4 only? Yes. That's the reason I had to upgrade as mentioned above.

All in all I use Nexus quite often because the specific nature of my work. Tight deadlines and polished presets without too much thinking gets the job done for me when I'm overloaded.
Do I consider reFX Nexus upgrade and expansions pricing as a rip-off towards existing owners? Absolutely yes.

But hey, I use it for living so kinda gotta deal with it

Since 2016 in BETA mode, Nexus 6, available in 2026 including AI help assistant. Costs? Probably way too much.

 

I've seen all kind of unfair and senseless critiques here and there.
But I gotta give it to ReFx, they're legit very good at being hateful. Congrats...?

When I try to load free presets in Nexus 3 now, I get a 'Nexus is VERY outdated. Run cloud-app.' message. It won't let me load any of them. I have 30,000 great free presets (many of them are better than anything on any other synth, because they are very original). So I now use Nexus 2.3.2 with the 30,000 free presets and Nexus 3 for the official expansions.
And I agree that the price of this 'upgrade' is ridiculous.

 

Legit or...? Just curious why you got that message to run cloud-app?

Refx has already became something like Steinberg. They charge big prices for minor updates.

 

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but making those changes become a major (first-digit) new release...
At least thanks to @playtime we know there's some real improvement, but still.
