Hot on the heels of the great Velvet Underground documentary comes the new 3-part Beatles documentary from Peter Jackson.

Really excited for this, mostly to see just how brazen and completely shameless Yoko Ono is. Just sitting on the floor in front of music megastar Paul McCartney's guitar amp while he tries to come up with new songs. You'd feel a bit silly, wouldn't you? Even if you were John Lennon's wife, right? Embarrassing.

The thing that excites me the most is the chance to see the Rick bass in action post fire-glo.

No, it's a brand new documentary and so far unseen by the masses, so come back in 10 years time when they release the 10th anniversary edition with outtakes, and then you can have a proper moan :)

Anybody watched it yet? I've done part one, and I would say it's not really suitable as general entertainment, but for song writing insights and psychological analysis, it's pretty good! Only 5 more hours to go ... :)

Watched the whole thing. Not a whole lot that's new in the sense most of the Saville Row vids were leaked black/white years ago. I was thrilled to see the Rickenbacker make a brief appearance though as I suspected it would.

    Just done part 1 too.
For me, it revealed how George really was compared to John and Paul; young and naive, and always putting the neg on himself. Pissed Paul right off in those rehearsals.
And revealed how mellow and easy John was with Paul taking the reign by this time. He seemed very carefree, which is what Paul needed and what forced the George thing to a head.
Paul just had the leader skills, I guess. And John was happy to chill with that.
    Very interesting.
Lots of laughs in there too!

The highlight of part 1 for me was at 2:04:36 when Paul said "so we'll go through it once and roughly get it in our heads", and then proceeds to play the early prototype of Let It Be. That was a moment of greatness right there.

Watched it all, each part each day, was an absolute joy, and whilst I know it could be edited to suit, it showed there was a lot less animosity than what people said.

also, what I took more than anything from it, and this ties into another topic about what made the Beatles great, it that any idea is worked on, knocked about, made into something. That was their great skill.

Yeah, they both mucked in with the music and the lyrics, which just goes to show that two heads are better than one if you can find the right collaborator.

Also love seeing that the process of finding lyrics doesn't have to be some deep soul searching event.

I watched part 1 and 2. I was so amazed at how bad they treated Gorge, I mean they would not let him do his part on his own.
I have collaborated with some and I always let then do what they feel it's not right to say the part has to be this way.
That is why you have members in the band, so each person contributes and you then have a whole.
Now if George could not play or sucked at playing that would be a different story.
