Well always keep it on anyway, don't just "try" it.
It works as an extra layer of basic security, and it's ridiculous it is given to us off by default, which is why I mentioned it.

When you block a .app. you are blocking the Standalone. You have not blocked any of the plugin versions as AU. Or any plugins loaded which may actually use VSTi's inside a Wrapper. Like Patchwork.

In LuLu, you can block entire sources of headache like /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components, /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST, /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3, and so on. You should remember that while lower directories maintain permissions, anything you add to that directory does not automatically inherit them. you need to periodically apply the rule so it applies to entire current content.

I only used the Omnisphere standalone when checking if the problem still exists, but nevertheless I am gonna block the VST/Component too and see what happens

This is what I've been implying all along.
I didn't even conceive that you would only test the standalone!
As I said, the DAW will call out on behalf of the plugin.

it's good to figure out firewall configuration anyway. this part should be like waking up in the morning.

but this is the kind of thing any real release group would remove from the program. or this one is installed wrong. a neat little time bomb and nothing to do with the fact he has MacOS installed on PC hardware.

we just both type too quickly :)

but same problem on two versions doesn't align with that, unless the first time bombs. and he just updated over an explosion.

But you said earlier that it's alright now that LS has blocked Google?
    I thought you were sorted?
    Oh, you used LuLu again?
    F LuLu! Use LS now!

Yeah but as I said I am gonna buy legit Omnisphere anyway in some weeks, so I hope that I won't need LittleSnitch. But since they got a black friday 30% discount maybe I am gonna buy it. I just hoped maybe it's somehow possible in LuLu or somewhere else to block Omnispheres connection to google

    Only outgoing, not incoming.
And if you have any other non-legit plugins, you will still need Little Snitch.
Even if you are totally legit, it's still a great protector to have. It's wild out in the web!
As I said, it stopped me from landing on a site page that would have given me instantly executable malware if LS hadn't have put up a block page over the site. It saw the malware. That's called a drive-by situation.
You need to protect your musical work tool device if it has to go online.
Most commercial studios have computers that have never been online.
    ??? :)

    Hi

I know that this was years ago but I want to use logic online too for arcade and I have two plug ins hat will me make me problems first Spectrasonics Omnisphere and Kontakt.

But I think kontakt will make not make so much troubles like Spectrasonics so my question is there a way how I can block spectrasoic for calling home without Little S or do you think that its a bad idea to be online anyways

I am on Mac os Ventura.

    Thx in Advance

You should have a firewall either way. Get LuLu it is free. https://objective-see.org/products/lulu.html

You can block the Standalone Omnisphere Application with the Mac system firewall, but not the plugins.

Go to System Preferences, Security and Privacy, Firewall Tab, Click the Lock to allow changes, Firewall options, Click the Plus + sign on the left side, Browse to your Applications and Select Omnisphere to add a Block rule. Then do the same thing with your DAW application and also Kontakt or any other Applications you want blocked too.

But blocking the plugins in LuLu is still recommendable.

i see your point. First, you can block Omnisphere from either LuLu or by editing hosts file to block Spectrasonics. I don't block Omnisphere at all because it is legit paid copy. Kontakt you can block using hosts also. When you block via hosts, you cannot use the legitimate vendor websites at all.

I do not block Logic at all. I block every plugin with LuLu. I block anything to do with my iLok. The only time I sign into iLok Manager program, is when I am adding new plugins or updating them. When I do that, I disable LuLu to let it connect and when done I turn it back on.

Is your Arcade a legit paid software and sample collection? If so, you can create rules in LuLu for an exception to the rule by making one which is an Allow rule instead of a Deny rule. It is almost the same as having no rule applied, but it actually supersedes any global rule that is applied to everything; so that it will allow traffic past the global block rule. Otherwise the block rule is inherited.

Sorry about the post length but i haven't had to consider this scenario before because I do not have any plugins that run inside Logic that communicate with the internet to function.

I would Block Kontakt, Omnisphere, Native Access standalone programs with either LuLu or mac Firewall; maybe even with both.

I would Block Logic, and not Arcade. I would create an Allow rule for Arcade application and or plugin version of it. If these 3 programs are all you have to worry about, blocking Logic is not necessary for this. It is for later on when you have many plugins you want to block, but having Logic blocked is a good backup in case you forget one, etc.

Then Open Logic and then Arcade inside of it. Arcade will attempt to go out to the internet and LuLu should prompt you to allow/deny Arcade. If it doesn't prompt you or connect correctly, you know that the rule for Logic is causing Arcade to be blocked also. That way, you will figure out if an Allow Rule will supersede the rule you have applied to Logic. If Arcade cannot access the internet because of your Block Rule for Logic, you will need to unblock Logic, and you may need to also create an allow rule for Arcade.

It will take a little tinkering with LuLu rules to get it working how you want, and blocking what you want. It's harder to explain than it will actually be for you to do. But you can definitely configure this so it will all work, easily. 10 or 15 minutes, I would guess.

you can send me a pm later if you need more help, but you can't break anything just trying things out. Leave Kontakt and Omnisphere closed until you are sure you have everything done correctly. (or block them in hosts file).

Thx again for reply so if just block logic it will block all plug ins for connecting and if I open Arcade and allow only that for connecting that is possible and Safe....

I block them all individually. Since I only use Logic, I delete every .vst, .vst3, .dpm, .aax format instance of all plugins. They are just taking up hd space. I block the .Components files as they are installed. I also block the entire /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components directory. If I need something to be let past the firewall I create an Allow rule for it. None of my plugins need access to the internet, including my iLok ones.

If something needs to connect for some reason, I will consider creating a new firewall rule for it, or perhaps just allow it temporarily (like iLok). The Mac system firewall is best used only for .app entire applications, and not other filetypes. If you want to block Logic, you can more easily in the 3rd party firewall like LuLu or Little Snitch. If you create an Allow Rule for Arcade, it should be able to access the internet. If not, you can disable LuLu and allow it out when you need to; or you can unblock Logic and block every plugin separately. In LuLu Preferences, just make sure you do not put it into No Icon Mode; so that you will have a LuLu icon in your status menu bar. You can disable and re-enable LuLu from there in 2 mouse clicks. It is just about the easiest third-party software firewall I have ever used; and it will take you only a couple of days to know it like an old pro.
