Which is why bitly links are supposed to be used by the uploader, for links to the dev's site...
For every uploader who doesn't do this, yes, the dev's server sees much traffic from the sister site...

Some things have lasted only 3 hours.
You can even work that out from what has just happened, very quickly, with the Falcon libs.

 

These links shouldn't be provided then. I do not believe it is such a task for a downloader to quickly google something they are going to download. Most will not even bother to take that time.

Bit.ly type anonymizers may make the source of traffic a bit more confusing. (to a very noob! developer)... But who is not going to notice a 15000% traffic increase to their server in 1 day with no new product release announcement, or other reason for a nearly viral level traffic spike? And then not know where it came from or why? Of course they will. They use inadequate protections but they are not this stupid.

The only functional result is an announcement of the hack/release. Zero other effect.

 

great point. i've always gone the extra step of copying the link and opening it up in a different browser to avoid the issue. but i realize now i'm just wasting my time.

 

If all uploaders used bitly as they are supposed to, you wouldn't have to do that.
But I used to do that too! I don't think it is a waste of time as such if it helps protect the site.

 

Exactly, it seems everyone saying "meh it was only ok anyway", haven't fully grasped exactly how deep it is

Everybody likes free products.

Now if they do business like snatching money from every buyer then it's all gonna end up in private torrents, offshore sites and dark web.

Ex: Recently i found a site named ui8 and they charge $368/year, some leakers ripped the whole site (They didn't even pay a single penny, you heard right) and sell on internet for a lifetime fees of $5.00, guess what after somedays a very kind person bought everything from them and shared in Telegram, Mega, Google Drive and above mentioned places. Now the whole site's resources are being shared by people on internet for free. There're thousands of such instances but don't get scammed if anyone asks for money, because The Best Things in Life Are Free.

So what the catch, i guess everybody's got it

I've been gone for almost 2 weeks for holiday and didn't checked, im just wondering if there is any other notable releases that I've missed, goes without my knowledge and already been took down other that those Falcon libs listed above or Spectrasonics. Other than that I may have missed some cool sample packs such as from Hy2rogen, Audentity, Splice that most of the time will completely lost from the internet even on UPAWG list because people don't usually re-up them in other places. Wondering if there's an actual list of everything taken down, or maybe someone keeping tabs for all of them. Do people in the Russian tracker re-up everything from the sis site ?
