Music is as simple as life. If the present cannot respect the past from whence it came, then not only does the future look bleak, the present is a minnow in the ocean of life, because without the roots, like a tree, it will eventually wither and die unless it grows some.

You ever see the look on a racist black metal heads face when you bring up the fact that black people made blues which later gave birth to rock, punk, then metal before it got to them in the form of black metal? I haven't seen it either but I imagine the look on their face when I told them online.

    We live in strange times.
The fact is that Jay Z brings nothing new to the table, the music is stale, safe and repeated.
There were actual revolutionary times when artists and bands brought something different to the table.

Like the news that Blinding lights is the best song of all times. This is pissing on the past, its not funny any more.

If they are truly prejudiced, then if they looked up the history books, they'd find it all started in the cottonfields of America with work songs post civil war that became the blues, first historically documented with Blind Lemon Jefferson as one of the founders of the blues in the early 1893-1900s.
    That would truly annoy them.

I can be impartial about it. Jay Z is not someone I listen to, but I respect his place in the music world. In some ways the producers are to blame for a lot of what is generated. It's like Ariana Grande. I have heard her sing with no FX and she can really sing but for some reason they overkill and change the sound of her voice with auto-tune and she sounds like the music does today, no better or worse than any overly processed modern tune.

Music goes in cycles. This period is not too different to the disco canned-music period and the techno period of the 90s. Eventually, people always cycle around to wanting real playing, real people and not fabricated music done by rapping DJ's that could not play an instrument just by themselves well without any FX or a computer if their life depended on it.

I actually like modern times and the recording technology but the diversity of music that is being pushed is none existent, its one dimensional.

We have now more variety than we could ever possible dream in the past, just need to know where to look mate. It's like living in NY, eating at Wendy's everyday and complaining about how "one dimensional" are your meals... bru, just go eat somewhere else, there are a a gazillion types of restaurantes in NY, from all kinds. The same goes to music nowadays, it's insane how much variety there is, sometimes it can even get depressing.

BUT, if you're referring to radio/mainstream shit, I can't disagree.

Its well known in the industry the Grammys are paid for. In the same way Payola still exists on a massive scale despite being outlawed. If you even knew half of what your musical heroes get up to behind the scenes, you'd never listen to them again.

You just know how these threads go.

If you don't like Jay-Z or care about the Grammys then ignore them. Make and promote the music and culture you want to.

Moaning about something you don't give a flying fuck about is not productive or good for you, and at worst can make you a bitter and miserable.

True..but it's fun and entertaining. Can't be blowing sunshine up everyone's ass 24-7. Plus a little misanthropy is a sign of a healthy mind.
