    ''Digital classic. Modern flair.''
With its retro workflow, evocative sounds, and powerful effects, the JD-800 was a favorite for top electronic music producers through the ’90s and beyond. Combining the original JD-800 waveforms with advanced modeling techniques, the JD-08 delivers the exquisite hands-on sound design of the original, along with hugely expanded polyphony, a two-part polyphonic sequencer, and other modern updates.

Roland releases Zenology with JD-800 engine. Roland profits. Roland releases same tech with original GUI as a dedicated plugin. Roland profits. Roland repurposes it again in a specialized ARM chip in a tiny box. Roland profits.

25 keys - small, compact - cheap - I also think the original is much better.

400 buckitos for a MIDI controller that has 2cm faders for envelopes? Hmmm I think I'd rather use my Novation Remote.

However, I'm really glad that Roland is releasing all these VST synths. I like them.

Actually, I'm not really sure if this is a standalone hardware or a MIDI controller, or both? The guy in the article mentions both.

It's both, it also has clock inputs and whatnot to interface with other hardware, so it could fit into a groovebox-style workflow with other small boxes.

I like that it's small and what stops me for wanting it is that it's small.

"I like that it's small and what stops me for wanting it is that it's small."

So true. I think I'll stick to Zenology Pro and Novation Remote.

But it's nice to have choices, eh?

Definitely! New hardware (even one based on old hardware) is always a bonus.

You purchase it in a rush, you try to be friends with the tiny faders, your children profit.
