All music artists speak about their early influences, and there are plenty of musical trees out there. The Velvet Underground were a fork in the road, and the seed for a lot of modern music.

That doesn't answer the question. I know Aphex Twin spoke about Brian Eno, but where did all the others come from?
Also I'm not emotionally invested in Velevet Underground, sorry. The site is more curious. I looked up some of my favourite artists there, but there's no info on them. They say they've recently had database problems and are working on restoring the information.

    I changed the music. :)

I was listening to Depeche Mode and now because of this thread I'm listening to Infected Mushroom Doors Remixes. Give it a go. Really trippy and great! They used Jim's originally recorded vocals. Rather weird experience.

I think when the Strokes released "Is this it" it kinda changed the sound that was around back in 2001? Anyone agree?? Maybe it's just me!

While the band's influence was everywhere by now, The Strokes' first album, 2001's Is This It, probably comes as close to any record since the Banana album to capturing directly that balance between passionate authority and detached cool. In 2010, The Strokes' singer Julian Casablancas told Rolling Stone: "The Velvet Underground were way ahead of their time. And their music was weird. But it also made so much sense to me. I couldn't believe this wasn't the most popular music ever made. In the beginning, The Strokes definitely drew from the vibe of the Velvets. A lot of our guitar tones are based on what Reed and Sterling Morrison did. I honestly wish we could have copied them more. We didn't come close enough. But that was cool, because it became more of our own thing. Which is something else I got from the Velvets. They taught me just to be myself."

Brian Eno has spoken extensively about the Velvet Underground, John Cale & La Monte Young, etc. You don't have to be emotionally invested to be a student of music history. For example, the Beatles & the Stones had an encyclopaedic knowledge of early American blues, and Elvis knew everything there was to know about country, blues & gospel. It's just something that that the best musicians do. The process of creating music includes filtration and reinterpretation.

I'm sorry if it sounds rude but I don't know how to put it any other way.
It seems that you're purposefully avoiding the question.
If you don't know the answer or don't want to answer, it's fine. We owe nothing to each other. But please just tell straight that.

Why do you need me to answer questions about anything? It's a trivial exercise to connect Aphex Twin to Brian Eno, and from there to the world of art & literary influenced music movements, avant-garde & drone, etc.

That's not what I ask about tho. This trivial exercise I can accomplish by myself.
I asked where does this site get the info from.
Oh well. I see you're indeed deliberately avoiding the answer. I won't pry any longer, then. Won't do any good anyways.

I already told you that all music artists speak openly about their musical influences, and it's obvious that some people have collated all of this information into a tree graph for their website. It's not rocket science, and this information has been freely available since long before the internet.

One can claim anyone or anything changed music. Music is in constant change regardless of what band you jerk off too. Every musician, producer, and engineer is influenced by others. You can't compare a band in the 80s to one of the 60s, because the technology was much different and music was much different. Synthesizers and Digital Recording probably did more to change music than any one band, but I'm not going to claim it so. But, where would RAP and Hip Hop be without it. Where would current Pop Music be without Digital Producers. In fact, Robert Johnson may very well have been responsible for the biggest music change ever for modern music. ALL modern music was based in the blues.....again a pure fact. Or, even going back farther......Debussy, Wagner, Beethoven, Mozart, and yes even Bach changed music of their time, key phrase "of their time". I like Velvet Underground, The Doors, Nirvana, Hendrix, Genesis, The fucking Beatles, Motown, Imagine Dragons, Deep Purple, Vulfpeck and many other thousands. They all influence, and change the music horizon. Just be glad they happened. Now you may resume your circle jerk, fuckers! :bleh::bleh::bleh::bleh::bleh:

It's the musicians themselves who share their musical influences. I prefer the bands that the Velvet Underground inspired, which is most of my favorite bands. Anyway, I started the thread to draw attention to the newly released documentary, nothing about a circle jerk, so go watch it if you can :bleh:

I may like the bands that inspired Velvet Underground....but that's just me, apples and oranges.

  20. I understood the reason behind your post. It wasn't an invitation to "tell me your favourite band"
