The Doors (Founded in 1965 - Dissolved in 1973)

If there’s one man who popularised the notion of the doomed rock’n’roll poet, it’s Jim Morrison. Frontman of The Doors, Morrison’s ever-rebellious spirit, along with his sensual baritone and shamanistic stage antics, saw him evangelise a poetic philosophy never seen before in rock music.
Whereas Bob Dylan built worlds out of surrealistic wordplay, Morrison brought a darker vision to life through characters such as The Lizard King, supported by the jazz-influenced psychedelic blues of Ray Manzarek (keyboards), Robby Krieger (guitar) and John Densmore (drums). More than just an icon, Jim Morrison’s early death robbed us of one of the most acclaimed musicians of his era, an inspiration for acts as diverse as Joy Division and INXS.

The Velvet Underground didn't sell many records, but they launched thousands of bands ...

    Sex Pistols

There’s little to say about Sex Pistols that hasn’t already been said. So let’s cut to the chase: the Pistols were hugely influential in 70s Britain, without whom the punk revolution would not exist. After Johnny Rotten’s clarion call (Anarchy In The UK), the whole musical landscape of the late 70s and early 80s was re-drawn, with the band’s mix of noisy distortion and political satire (God Save The Queen) setting the blueprint for all to follow. From politicised post-punk to intelligent synth-pop, it all started with Sex Pistols.

Hello @Zenarcist, thanks to you for the link, really a great site, very clear, one click is enough. I saved myself as a bookmark right away.

    Kraftwerk (Years active 1969–1983, 1986–present)

Kraftwerk is a German band formed in Düsseldorf in 1969 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. Widely considered innovators and pioneers of electronic music, Kraftwerk was among the first successful acts to popularize the genre. The group began as part of West Germany's experimental krautrock scene in the early 1970s before fully embracing electronic instrumentation, including synthesizers, drum machines, and vocoders. Wolfgang Flür joined the band in 1974 and Karl Bartos in 1975, expanding the band to a quartet.

I think Kraftwerk were also influenced by the Velvet Underground, who were very experimental at the time and John Cale especially was into all sorts of stuff, drone, avant-garde, etc. Watch the new documentary if you can :)

    Giovanni Giorgio Moroder

Giovanni Giorgio Moroder is an Italian music producer and composer. With his music composed mainly on the synthesizer, Moroder is considered the “dance music godfather”. Together with Donna Summer and Pete Bellotte, he developed modern dance music from Munich in the 1970s, but also continued to develop it into a new idea of international pop .

    Best of Giorgio Moroder

    Patrick Cowley

Patrick Joseph Cowley (born October 19, 1950 in Buffalo, New York, † November 12, 1982 in San Francisco, California) was an American disco and Hi-NRG music producer. In the same breath as Giorgio Moroder, Cowley is celebrated as one of the pioneers of electronic dance music.

A few years ago I heard that a group was en vogue, the Doors. At first I thought that a new band of young musicians had formed. But no, I was amazed that a real Doors-wave went through the country, in which the Doors had an enormous comeback. Suddenly I heard from the rooms of my daughters songs from the Doors day in, day out. :disco:

    Thank GOD someone said it.

It's another circlejerk, sure, but.. I don't get why people worship the Beatles for "hurrdurr (badly) experimenting with different genres" when Queen also did it and did it SO, SO, SO much better. While being likable. And BROKE (for a while)

    In the Nursery

In the Nursery, or ITN for short, is a British music and artist project that was founded in Sheffield in 1981. In addition to Dead Can Dance, it is one of the founders of neo-classical music and one of the pioneers of martial industrial.

In the Nursery - Stormhorse (Full Album) 1987

    Dead Can Dance

Dead Can Dance are a musical group of Australian origin that combine influences
from very different, ethnic musical styles into their own style.

The legacy of the Velvet Underground is the music that came afterwards.

    Jean-Michel Jarre

Jean-Michel Jarre (born August 24, 1948 in Lyon), actually Jean-Michel André Jarre, is a French musician, composer and music producer. Under the influence of Pierre Schaeffer, compositions for the synthesizer were created from the beginning of the 1970s, which are considered to be pioneering for electronic music.

    Jean-Michel Jarre - Equinoxe (1978)

Let's not forget Aphex Twin. He showed us tech nerds we can make music too.
Or rather, we too can call what we make music.
And also showed all the normal artists the crazy things that can be done with a synthesizer.
And also inadvertently gave birth to a ton of memes.

Sparks. A new documentary just came out, "The Sparks Brothers". One of the more influential bands that many don't know about. 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Watch the trailer.
