What's the latest with Audacity... have they redeemed themselves with their privacy hiccup / still good to use, or drop it and use alternatives?

I find no problem to be notified about updates and to send messages about errors.

You all use Internet every day and send similar data to many sites. IP address, OS, a browser you are using, its version etc. May be it's worth abandoning Internet? Internet spies on you!

You're pretty naive and carefree. You think I have nothing to hide You voluntarily take part in the data collection by ticking, yes, please "send messages about errors". With this you give the company the right to evaluate your data.

A lot of data is also being resold. Today there are search engines like Startpage or DuckDuckgo that do not collect any data about you. It is up to all of us to defend ourselves against the data collection frenzy and to stand up for its data protection.

Another absurd idea that you have come up with, you ask yourself "Is it worth doing without the Internet", no - the Internet is a great opportunity to get to know other people and other opinions. You can read and take notes in forums.

The Internet is one of the greatest achievements of modern times. Remember, not all of your fellow human beings want the best for you, but rather a lot want your money and your data. Yes, the internet is spying on you to some extent, do something about it and defend yourself.

I mean earlier this year Audacity got a big :knock: because of the wording in their usage agreement re. data collection.
I think they retracted it, re-worded it etc.

So - is it safe Ok now to use again, or move to other editor utilities?

Unfortunately, the website cannot be reached, I wanted to see if you have changed it.
That's why you have to come to terms with it first.

Tenacity is an easy-to-use multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, macOS, Linux and other operating systems. It is built on top of the widely popular Audacity and is being developed by a wide, diverse group of volunteers.

    • Recording from audio devices (real or virtual)
    • Export / Import a wide range of audio formats (extensible with FFmpeg)
    • High quality including up to 32-bit float audio support
    • Plug-ins providing support for VST, LV2, and AU plugins
    • Scripting in the built-in scripting language Nyquist, or in Python, Perl and other languages with named pipes
    • Editing arbitrary sampling and multi-track timeline
    • Accessibility including editing via keyboard, screen reader support and narration support
    • Tools useful in the analysis of signals, including audio
    Motivation
Our project initially started as a fork of Audacity as a result of multiple controversies and public relation crises, which you can find out more about here:

Nevertheless, the goal of this project is to pick up what the original developers of Audacity the decades-long work by the original creators of Audacity and create an audio editor that is fresh, more modern, convenient and practical to use, with the help and the guidance of our users and our community.
