Ryzen 7 5700g , is this apu good for less DPC latency?

    Finally Im upgrading my setup to a am4 (im coming from Xeon e5-2620 v3), I experienced lots of dpc dropouts because of nvidia drivers, so I was wondering if getting a apu will be a good idea for less latency (since the apu is way closer to the processor phisically than any gpu could be)

    It is not just the CPU that you want to use. The motherboard & memory also play a significant role in how fast data gets back & forth between devices.

    A good workstation/creator motherboard such as the ASUS ProArt B550-Creator (or X570).
    Memory with tight timings such as 14-14-14, 15-15-15 or 16,16,16 (35 to 39) @ 3600 MTS (close to ECC performance, not exact).
    Good PCIe x3 or x4 NVMe ssds (500GB for boot & system, 1TB to 4TB for projects, VSTi libraries, etc.
    Good power supply rated for 80+ Gold or Platinum (BeQuite, SeaSonic/Phanteks) with enough power for any future add-ons

    Your current CPU would work well in a dual CPU configuration. Maxing out out 3.2GHz at best, it falls short of the minimum 3.4GHz base that is usually recommended.

    My current home system is a Lenovo S30 with an E5-1620 V2 3.6GHz base, 3.9GHz boost. 64GB Registered ECC. With improvements in software optimization & performance, I have been able to put off upgrading to a new system for now.

    Latest version: LatencyMon v 7.20

    LatencyMon checks if a system running Windows is suitable for processing real-time audio and other tasks. LatencyMon analyzes the possible causes of buffer underruns by measuring kernel timer latencies and reporting DPC and ISR execution times as well as hard pagefaults. It will provide a comprehensible report and find the kernel modules and processes responsible for causing audio latencies which result in drop outs. It also provides the functionality of an ISR monitor, DPC monitor and a hard pagefault monitor.

    I see, for the motherboard Im thinking about a TUF b550m Plus or a B450 Tomahawk, but I'm not sure yet, Tomahawk is pretty hard to find here...
    I have some 2400mhz memories, im sure that with D.O.C.P I could get em to work at 3000mhz, but idk about the timings, im pretty new to timings actually
    In my actual system I've been experiencing lots of Pops and clicks, even out FL Studio
    My actual config is: Xeon 2620 v3,
    16gb of DDR4 ram (but working at 1866mhz because of the processor)
    X99 Huananzhi 8m-F gaming Motherboard
    2tb of 500mb/s SATA 3 speed of reading and writing
    And a HD 6870 1gb Video Card (I had a Nvidia 770 before, but it interfered so hard on my DCP latency, the AMD does a way better job)

    But I still dont know why Im getting audio pops and clicks yet

    I used it to discover that the GTX 770 that I had was causing lots of issues with latency, after changing for a AMD HD 6870 its way better, now the max latency is 380, but I still getting pops and clicks randomly

    I think the question is: does a apu beat a faulty NVIDIA driver? and the answer is probably yes.

    But would I personally decide to ditch a gpu for that? I do not,
    I am a happy 1660 user with no problems.

    I think switching from Xeon could be the fix in itself.

    The TUF b550m Plus works very well, make sure to update the BIOS and install the latest AMD chipset driver.
    The B450 Tomahawk MAX II is the current model, works OK too, but the TUF is better.

    Your current setup is not allowing the CPU to work at it's designed performance.

    To get the most out of the E5-2620 V3, the ideal would have been:
    Workstation motherboard with 8 memory slots populated with 8GBx4 or 16GBx4, DDR4 1866 MT/S Registered ECC modules.
    This give you 4 channels of memory effectively operating at roughly double the rate of standard 2 channel memory at the same speed along with other benefits.

    SSD should be at least SATA 6 Gb/s. A 1TB/2TB NVMe mounted on a PCIe x4 card as a second drive would also be ideal.

    AS for the new motherboard. I still recommend the ASUS ProArt B550-Creator for maximum performance but, the TUF Gaming board will do.
    The 2400 MT/S memory will cripple the 5700G. Ryzen processors require at least 3200 MT/S and do better at 3600 MT/S.
    32GB of memory is the sweet spot for audio/video production. 64GB of memory ensure smooth operation in almost all situations of creation, editing & mixing.

    Gaming & audio/video production use systems resources in similar but, very different ways. Audio/video require a steady stream of data movement for optimal production outcomes.

    Yes, I will definitively upgrade my PC to a more recent plataform, but I want to know if worts to chose the Ryzen 7 5700g in place of the 5800x, I will not game on this pc, the focus is music production, so I was thinking that having a apu is a better way to have a cooler and quieter system (since I will not need to have a gpu, and the vega 8 is better than my actual gpu)

    I would really love to get a ram with more speed or some NVME drives but I cant afford em actually, my x99 motherboard have only 2 slots of ram, so I cant run quad channel.
    I searched for this ASUS proArt b550-Creator here and I found it, but I cant afford it, this motherboard costs more than twice the price of the TUF one, and the tuf is already on the top of my budget

    Edit: I just noticed that my rams arent 2400mhz, they are 2666mhz, so I may be able to get even 3200 in a D.O.C.P profile

    The relative benefit of an APU is that the GPU is next/inside CPU,
    the problem could be that the GPU will be using system Memory too..

    So you will have less RAM memory available,
    and at least part of it will be continually used by the GPU, so even if minimally it could deter memory/bus performance..

    OTOH modern PCI-X buses are super optimized to have a fast/direct connection with the CPU as possible,
    so the benefits of APU vs GPU would be slim at best..


    I would try to get the best processor and keep that HD6870 card,
    if you're not gaming is probably more than good enough for the task..

    Altho it's possible a more modern video card of the same capacity will have inferior power requirements,
    and thus generate less heat.. :wink:

    Just to make sure you understand. 4 channel memory operation is:
    1. The CPU capability. 2, 3, 4, 6 or 8 channel memory controller.
    2. The type of RAM. ECC server/workstation or normal desktop memory
    3. The motherboard compatibility

    Take a picture of the FL Studio settings. 380 samples ?! . Where did you read that? You start with 44.1 & 512 samples, if there is crackling / dropouts, you go to 44.1 & 256 samples. Which sound card / USB audio interface do you have?

    I mean the latencymon result, 380 is the highest number that latencymon registers on my system
