Indeed. For that kinda dosh I could assemble 2 extremely fast and quality PCs you can use together as one [ReaMote], and avoid any compatibility problems in the process. Without taking the cost into account, they are doing a really good job of making Intel and AMD double their efforts to make even faster CPUs. Competition is good.

Regarding compatibility, most of the best plugins work with M1's already, so I suppose it won't be such a huge issue to make all the software compatible with M1 Pro and Max, but one will have to wait for a while to be able to run all of them. Patience is the key here. It always is, with new computers.

Still, for music, I think a good PC with nicely lite Windows is the best and cheapest solution.

absolutely these are for "Pro" users i think these are very suitable for 3d works and video editing. for music production i don't think you need this much performance.

when considering a pro mac mini i think it's not so close, maybe next year. but for me, my m1 mac mini is more than enough for my work.

also tried the new logic update and it's sick:grooves: still playing with note sequencer and new spatial audio.:boombox:

    Apples (!) to Oranges.

Sure you can get performance for that money, but can you get it in a laptop, which we're discussing here.

I'm happy with my Ryzen on a desktop for sure but could I get it in a laptop with a long battery life?

A consideration on laptops for audio recording:
What happens with my Macbook pro 2015 (Intel) is that when it goes under stress it starts spinning the fans in a very noisy and invasive way, the resulting noisefloor is quite annoying. Now, I imagine that all the power generated by this new M1 chip will generate even more heat: this will create even more noise from the fans, transforming our control room into an airport runway. With a desktop computer the way to solve this problem is to close the computer in a soundproofed space, but with a laptop it is not that easy to solve the problem.
I hope that on the first reviews someone will also measures the db of this new Macbook M1 during a stress test

Have you had your hands on a M1 Macbook yet? They make zero noise and very little heat, that's the selling point of these chips that they are very efficient. So in short: less heat and less noise.

yeah i doubt this will be an issue @recycle, the reason why they went manufacturing their own cpus is exactly that intel couldn't handle apples requirements in thermals. The M1 in the air macbook is today used by thousands of pro musicians and it doesn't even have a single fan!..

but sure, it would be histerical if something like that would occure, that someone f up and let it pass without warning before release day. would be funny but i hope its not the case really, since this will put some heat on intel and amd

Yes, it is a lot of money.. but, since some ppl here also do Audio/Video/.. - just my graphics card, a 3090 RTX ftw3 (almost passive cooled) costs more than that. Pair that with an AMD 5950x and all the rest.

Do these laptops beat my system? Especially in shaders, like V-ray (in GPU mode, using CUDA cores)? What is the graphics in this laptops? From that trailer it seams like rendering an animation is a child's play..

Sorry, I know nothing about macs..

Let's wait and see how noisy these machines are. The 16" models come with a whopping 140W power adapter, instead of the 96W one of the last Intel i9 16" MacBook Pro which already gets very noisy when working.

Better options for reviews/testing would be:
    White Sea Studio
    The ReaperBlog
    Mattias Holmgren
    Constant Geekery
    Morgonaut Media

140W is needed for the larger screen display, possibly larger battery & higher CPU/GPU core count.

for anyone wondering if these machines are all what they promise, yes they are.

never has there been a leap like this in laptop performance over one generation. im both windows and mac user and extremely critical of many aspects of apples ways but, this release is second to non. end of story, its a new chapter, not only for apple, for the whole computer industry.

my last lappy had a i7 7700k desktop cpu in it and the battery pack was the size of a house brick and nearly weighed as much, and the only reason I replaced is the screen failed and I needed a new one for work, but the new models with desktop CPU’s had TWO of those battery packs, and I didn’t fancy having to lug a generator with me to client meetings, so went for one with a mobile 11th gen i7 and 16GB 3080 Max Q. The fans get loud! I fear the increased power output of these things is now at a point whereby they are trying to keep them thin and portable, but the heat just cannot be dealt with. Don’t get me wrong, when it’s not pushed the temps are good and it’s silent, but when pushed and they kick in, well, you wouldn’t want to be in the middle of recording that delicate acoustic guitar performance!!!

In my opinion, this is the definitive laptop to get for audio work. In fact if I had to say, one of the few true laptops. Not huge chunky plastic, very heavy "laptops" that require to be plugged in for it to ever touch their flashy specs. Take the charger/power off then your laptop becomes crippled substantially. This new MacBook is extremely fast, sleek, portable, and can be used at same performance level on battery as it has while plugged in.

    Apple said 1,7 and 2
    theoretically
    Pro 25.751,6‬
    Max 30.296

if they use the same tests
they will produce the most powerful mobil CPU´s

    Intel Xeon W-11955M 24013
    AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX 23519

But with mobile come some problems like Ports and Drive Space .

I will stay on a good old fashion Desktop 6 SSD/HDD Systems :winker:

This is an "official" Intel leak possibly using DDR5 memory.
I really hope they are competitive for prices sake, but these scores... fishy.

I still don't understand the hype generated every time new CPUs are announced; even years ago personal computers were also insanely good, we can say that problems are basically on the software side - most programming languages are very old shit and get very-very slowly new updates (we are out of touch by many decades of novel research in computer science)...regular programmers are also not the nerdy geniuses depicted in the movies (these are the guys that innovate), good luck expecting some miracles in optimization and implementation of algorithms (that they didn't invent).
So, new shiny computer + shit code = shit performance in the end. You won't get much out of it.

I take it you don't understand the difference between userspace code and compilers, not to mention CPU microarch/microcode?

Sure, it'll take some time for these to catch up, but that's beside the point here.

I mean, the only code these days you have direct influence over if you write SIMD instructions directly, but then autovectorization is catching up. Rest of it is totally outside programmers' control.
