apple introduced new m1 pro and max chips with insane 64gb unified memory with more cores and insane power. specially for a laptop that size?

they've also released new logic pro 10.7 with improved gui and spacial audio mixing? is this lit, dolby atmos with a laptop.

i'm pretty excited right now specially with logic pro. because i already have a m1 mac. lemme know what you guys think.

I saw the Logic Pro 10.7 update too. However, it requires Mac OS 11 and my Mac is too old for that.

Maybe I need to figure out how to get one of those new MacBook Pro models? I think the M1 "Pro" model with 32GB RAM would work well for sample-heavy orchestral music composition work.

I'm certain we'll see benchmarks from Music Production users next week.

It's a big release and finally the focus on Music - the laptop's are towers of power - untapped wells of juice. Seems they suspended the VR/augmented reality release - that in combination with spatial audio/ logic programming.... next gen stuff

Although still those m1 chips are plenty fast for most music production needs. We can expect buttery smooth experience for performance heavy sessions with these.
Yup prices are high but those pro models always was. but for that price i think user gets great value.

If you need to get an xps i9 one costs more than that m1 pro. Let's wait for reviews to see a better picture.

Waiting for updated MacMini (or the replacement) pricing, features & performance testing.

Also expected that, but it seems like we have to wait more.

Exciting release... I like the trickle idea as its way better for the market to digest and Apple developers to test.
If you're a Logic user you should be stoked.. I'm using Studio One and Bitwig.

I couldn't be happier with my Mac Mini M1.
The New 16' Pro looks amazing and I love the screen but I can't justify the price considering I sidecar my Ipad pro and the integration with my iphone 12 promax.

Can't wait for the new Mac Mini.. most certainly gonna upgrade to the 32 core 64 gig ram 2TB
Then I'm gonna flip my current Mini m1 512/16 and sell my 2015 MacBook pro 17 and get a used Macbook M1 16gig/512

These are exciting times and it's going to be interesting to see Intel and AMD's next move, although a PC will only ever be an audiogridder server to me as I'm totally happy with the workflow and integration of the Apple ecosystem.

Is the new Logic 10.7 compatible with BigSur?

Yes it's fully campatible you atleast need bigsur to use that version because logic now uses bigsur ui elements.

If I was doing video or 3D work I'd be creaming my pants right about now.

However for me I think the 14" M1 Pro, with the least amount of GPU and 32GB RAM looks like the sweet spot for an audio laptop. Not that I need one just now, but ooh the shiny.

Eagerly waiting real benchmarks 'cause these look badass.

i wish we had big youtubers like Linus Tech Tips, Dave2D, MKBHD doing these CPU reviews and benchmarks - but using audio plugins...

i would love to know how many instances of Ozone 9 Maximizer IV & T-Racks 5 Classic Clipper these can hold compared to a top level i7/i9 creator laptop like a Dell XPS (not these gross, massive, over the top RGB gaming laptop where the trackpad is more to the left side :snuffy:)

at the end of the day for me personally i almost never max out my CPU in production sessions, only in mixing sessions, so i would love to know how it compares to other Windows laptops on that area of loading many, or heavy CPU plugins.

It all looks very very promising, especially with that low power consumption - i think this is the future, and for now Windows is really behind and has literally nothing comparable to offer, so thats why i kinda accept to swallow that "price increase pill", simply because there is no competition to their power efficiency <-> performance ratio.

the most annoying part is that they didnt release a 13inch without touchbar and with magsafe, they finally listened and gave the new 14 and 16 inch models their ports back, replaced the touchbar with function keys and went old skool with the magical magsafe but gave a middle finger to the 13inch. goddammit!!

Knowing Apple, these will seep into the next revisions of the "smaller" products, likewise we won't see a M1Pro Mac Mini yet, they probably will refresh the iMacs first, but eventually.

The ball is definitely in AMD's and Intel's court as it looks like these chips will deliver.

Intel is taking the step towards this sort of design with Alder Lake but at the moment they're desktop chips and lack the unified memory and we don't know if they can deliver an integrated GPU with their new Xe architecture.

AMD? Dunno, they're doing well in the heavy-duty computing space, servers and workstations, though they have a decent iGPU going on.

But you're right, the whole power/perf ratio for laptops was already unmatched with M1 and now this.

The next few years will be interesting as fuck.

just a friendly reminder to the ones that are suffering from anxiety just "wanting" these machines and risk to burn money they dont have.

focus and think, where are you in your process?
are you just stacking vsts channels just to avoid the fact you still dont master a basic arrangement and structure and hide behind "more"

then a new machine is not going to help you.

are you making actual money with the hardware you own?
if no, a new machine is not going to do that.

now, if you are making money with it and you either feel this will break some limitations you are struggling with or you simply want to invest in new then go ahead.

Your batteries maybe, if someone is crazy enough to fit a desktop CPU into a laptop. Not to mention that it needs a GPU.

Though in comparison, it might be a nice space heater in the winter.
