    Hi.

I'm looking for an audio interface to use with my Mac AND Pc without having to replug the usb port constantly when switching systems.

On my PC, I'm recording all my work. On my Mac, I'd love to use the sure mic for video conferencing, too. all with the same audio interface.

    Any solution to this?

    Thanks so much

edit: Could THIS be my saviour?

I'd have thought you'd be better off overall with having your mic going into a small mixer (with dual aux/sends) that could be independantly routed to seperate audio interfaces on each of your computers.

hmmm, never thought of that. I want to keep my desk as clean as possible or mount it underneath it.
Got any links? sounds cheaper than a new audio interface :)

That looks like a midi-hub, not an audio interface.

The Audio4c looks like a device that can merge/passthrough audio and midi, rather than switch, but might do the job for you.

You could search for a powered usb switch, not sure if they exist. But i'd rather get 2 audio interfaces as Paul Pi already suggested, than pay €400 for that Audio4c device.

As a general example (not a specific recommendation), if you used something like this cheap behringer mixer, you could route the the mixer's 'main' output to go into computer A's audio interface (mono or stereo) input & the mixer's 'FX' output (or indeed the mixers control room output) to go into computer B's audio interface (mono or stereo) input.

As long as you spent a bit of time to set the mixer input/output levels correctly, you shoudn't experience any noticable audio degradation/artifacts.

the real problem here is we have been given no actual details. lol. for example, as simply as this is described; why does this even need to be connected to the same IO over usb?

"On my PC, I'm recording all my work. On my Mac, I'd love to use the sure mic for video conferencing, too. all with the same audio interface.

    Any solution to this?"

There are nice, desirable ways of doing things, or you can do stuff on the cheap. are the machines on the same network? What audio connectivity do they already have? Do you need them to both have control over the interface simultaneously? Do they both have ethernet ports? Do you have a crossover cable or a network switch?

but if you just want to buy a new interface anyway, who am I to stop you? maybe you buy a 15 dollar cable and a vocoder for some of those work calls instead. install audio hijack or something. maybe if you save 200$, I only have x3448 to catch up.

I use the Shure SM7B which has XLR. So I need an interface for it in order to make it work on a computer.
I don't want to unplug the interface every time I switch computers. I don't want to unplug the microphone either.
and I'm trying to maintain a clean desk.

Could I use an XLR 2 USB Cable with Cloudlifter to connect the Shure SM 7 B to the Mac via USB effortlessly?

    Shure - X2U
    X2u XLR-to-USB interface (Recommended retail price 149 €)

The X2u XLR-to-USB interface connects any XLR microphone to the USB port of a computer via "plug and play".

    PRODUCT DETAILS

Plug & Play sound into the computer
With the X2u you can make recordings on the computer quickly and easily. Any microphone with an XLR connector can be connected directly to the X2u. The X2u is then connected to the PC or Mac with the included USB cable. You can start right away, without any additional driver installation. The X2u is supplied with power via the computer's USB port.

    Latency-free monitoring and multi-track recordings
Thanks to the built-in headphone connection with volume control, the X2u enables latency-free monitoring before the AD conversion. This means delay-free listening while recording on the computer. The Monitor Mix Control also offers the option of mixing previously recorded tracks with the live signal from the microphone.

    Also for condenser microphones
The X2u supplies 48V phantom power. This means that it can also be operated with high-quality condenser microphones.

    Important: Driver for Mac OS X (v 10.4.7 - 10.4.11)
The X2u basically works on both PC and Mac without additional driver installation. The only exception is the Max OS X version 10.4.7 - 10.4.11. We recommend an update to version 10.5.6 or higher. If you don't want to update your Mac OS X version, you can find a driver for version 10.4.7-10.4.11 on the Software Downloads page.

In a bundle with the SM57 or SM58
The X2u is also available as an inexpensive bundle. Either with the SM57 instrument microphone as an SM57-X2u digital bundle, or with the SM58 vocal microphone as an SM58-X2u digital bundle.

    FEATURES

    - USB "Plug and Play" functionality
    - Allows you to quickly and easily connect an XLR microphone to a computer's USB port for digital recordings
    - Compatible with Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 7, 8 and Mac OS X (10.1 or higher)
    - Integrated microphone preamplifier to regulate the microphone input level
    - Latency-free listening to the microphone signal during recording
    - Integrated headphone jack with volume control
    - Monitor Mix Control for listening to and mixing already recorded tracks with the live signal of the microphone
    - + 48V phantom power for condenser microphones
    - 3 m USB cable included

    A couple of questions first.
Do you have any interface at the moment you are using?
Do you need to have both machines using the interface at the same time?
