    Strange one this..

Opened a project and discovered that there is a locked midi track (all the midi parts have padlocks on them).

No matter what I do I am unable to remove the track.

Edit > Unlock is greyed out

Edit > there is no option to remove the track.

When I look in the track inspector it is not connected to any instruments but the small padlock icon is greyed out.

Right click on the track in the track list brings up nothing that helps.

    Any suggestions?

Is the cubase project file write-protected?

Hi. Not that I know of as I can add new tracks, write midi and delete midi and audio tracks.

It's just this one midi track that seems locked.

And the locked midi is not routed to a frozen VST channel?

EDIT: Sorry, i just re-read your post... yeah, that is indeed most curious. Hassle Steinberg?

Have you tried re-saving the project to a different file, see if that makes a difference?

Was that midi track imported originally or did you create it yourself?

    Hi Paul

Yeah I tried saving as a different name, closed the project, closed Cubase, and even rebooted the computer (vain hope).

I dont think it was an imported midi, but I did import a couple a few weeks ago which I thought I had removed
    so it might be possible.

Hmm, very strange. At this point, i guess your best option would be to post on steinberg's cubase forum - perhaps someone there knows what might have gone awry...

I just had the same problem, and I finally found it was a frozen track.
So all I had to do is unfreeze (left side, inspector, first group, drop it down and look at the top, there must be a little frost icon) and now I was able to remove the track (or do whatever the heck I wanted).

I hope this brings a new ray of hope!

Try this... Select the parts and press CTRL+SHIFT+U together. Worth a shot.

I think the part is locked not the track. I dont have Cubase now in front of me. But look where to unlock the midi part/event.
