4KC & 9KC, plus a few from the other libraries. I use a lot of Nebula in my tracks, Neve for tracking and SSL for mixing, and also API if I want a certain sound.

I'm only using a single Nebula program for color, and all of the adjustments are made with the algo plugins. My workflow is not set in stone, but this is how I use my algo plugins.

    I think I got them for $29.99.

This was mixed on an SSL G right before the pro tools revolution. Now go and listen to modern rock bands produced ITB.

The more i use the SSL native channel strip 2 the more i see what a joke other SSL emulations are.
Even console N is now a joke when you boost the high band with SSL native it just opens it up without getting harsh, others fail fast.

What do you think about the fact the guitars on Tool's latest album were mixed in Pro Tools using the old Waves SSL E plug-in?

Edit: Just to respond to that video, the sound of Spoonman was the result of the live tracking room, mics, mic placement, instrument choice, and so on in the old Studio X. The fact the song may have been mixed on an SSL desk would have been one of the more transparent elements of the process.

Definitely. The end product is the sum of all choices but mixing board also imparts a big footprint in the sound.
If you go an listen to the raw recording it needs processing and its the mixing that brings out all the hidden detail, adds width, clarity, separation, assuming most of the song is mixed on the board itself.
But yeah, usually these high budget bands are miced and recorded so well that mixing is fun, material mixes itself.

Definitely! We agree about the role of mixing, but I think we're not on the same page regarding the significance of analog hardware in that process. That's why I brought up the last Tool album.

Interesting, I thought the reason they picked that studio had to do with a Neve desk that was there. I did read an interview with the producer, Michael Beinhorn, where he had said that Chris' vocal chain was going through some specific Neve gear.
Maybe tracked on the Neve stuff and finally mixed on the SSL G? :dunno:
