Is Intel Throttling MKL Performance on AMD?

If programmers are just using drop-in code from Intel as explained in the video, DAWs like Studio One will not run optimally on Zen based processors.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, digging in the plugin framework JUCE using Intel MKL/IPP for doing FFTs.
You can't help good-willed software optimizations for Intel CPUs, the leaders in CPU performance for several years.

But... if we're talking about straight Intel software (libraries/source-code) like Intel MKL/IPP things change.
Because AMD is mopping the floor with them lately. And we know Intel's history.

And there's a lot of music software using Intel MKL/IPP libraries, especially for FFT/Convolution.
    From Studio One to Amplitube.

As said in the video, people and even Intel are patching Intel MKL up for Ryzen processors, so I wouldn't worry.

Intel has always been full of wankers, similar to Microsoft, but since their reputation has been a ruined a bit lately, to put it mildly, they're trying all they can to be a better kind of wankers these days. That goes for Microsoft, too. It's hard to repair the damage that's been done over the years, though... oh well, we'll see. Wankery is hard to get rid of.

There's an interesting program I found called "Windows 10 Debloater". It disables crap in Windows 10 and makes it work as fast as Windows 7. :) Look it up, easy to find on github.

To be fair, every tech giant has played dirty. Apple artificially capping iPhones performance unless you bought the new one, Google,...
The thing with Intel and also Microsoft is that they have longer history and more competence. And sometimes their competence has surpassed them making them play even more dirty.

First of all i'd like to congratulate my friend @quadcore64 for posting this. I 'm a big fan of Wendell's work in Level1 techs. He single-handedly showed the whole world including yours truly, how to correctly install and use TB3 on the TRX40/Threadripper3 platform. And if you 've built a comp or many you know how it is when new tech appears that supposedly does this and that but how the hell is it done in practice lol. In my case, setting up a great comp for a very important client of mine, even Gigabyte's rep didn't know how to properly get Thunderbolt3 working properly with the TRX40 Designare. Thnk God there was Wendell or i would be in for a hellish ride. But now i know hehehe...
Yes indeed but Intel is the worst of 'em all, to the point of being simply evil and this is not an exaggeration, just plain fact. A great example i have mentioned in the past, Intel was bribing Dell for years in order not to use AMD cpus in their comps and in the form of "bonus checks for annual sales".
Intel likes to call AMD their imitators but if you know your history Intel was founded in 1968 and AMD in 1969. If you look more closely, Intel got the "golden goose" in the recent Core series years, by just imitating AMD's architecture from the much successful Athlon cpus and moving the memory controller inside the cpu. Now they try to copy AMD's Infinity Fabric for their Xeons, when they recently released their 56 core Xeon which is 2x28cores glued together fact that Itel has been accusing AMD for their Ryzen architecture all the previous time lol. And that 56core Xeon of course, noone can buy although it is listed as a real part lol.
Sometimes i look at my comps and from the perspective in discussion, i just hate meself for having 12 Intel comps and only one, decomissioned AMD.

I can't deny that. Those fuckers...

BTW, I saw that video recently. I had a lot of laughs, Intel's misery treat :rofl:

    Thanks for the applause!

I've been waiting to build another Threadripper based system to co-exist with or replace my current Xeon system.
Lots of research & watching what board makers & developers are doing. Have also mocked up a Epyc based workstation to take advantage of the 8 channels of memory that is now available with the Threadripper Pro series. I expect AMD to offer this with the next gen of Threadripper along with 40Gbs USB.

Although you can buy Xeon for desktop computers they're mostly targeted to the server market (AI, big crunching numbers in general, crypto, weather/weapons simulations and so on). Still sucks big time though.

AMD's Epic are entirely targeted for servers. If you're a crazy consumer you can buy a Ryzen ThreadRipper. In this case is good news, because of course the improvements will also arrive to Ryzens. At least most of them.
Anyways, I wouldn't trust any prediction that goes farther than one year in this crazy market.

Well Cubase is primarily coded on intel. Hign end AMD has some advantage with other software, video editing etc.
Intel/Cubase offers more stability in bigger projects, faster io operations and less latency overall.
There are a lot of posts on gearslutz of people who bought a high end amd with lots of cores only to be disappointed.
