    Hey guys,

I'm looking for that beautiful 80s Style muted guitar sound that you can find in a lot of tracks:

    (00:38)

(Beautiful Clean sound, but missing the longer notes here)

All VST's that I've tried are either completely muted or not muted at all, I cant find anything in between
to get that crispy slappy muted sound.

    Tried:
    - All Ample Sound Guitars
    - Session Guitarist Electric Sunburst and Vintage

If anyone can put his finger on the exact FX that is used when playing a live guitar I would also appreciate that.

I know you said you tried Ample but I thought it sounded similar when I tried "Ample Guitar SC", tap/hold down Palm mute (D0) key and try out the double button also in Ample funk muted guitar.png then add Delay 1/16 D Mono or Stereo, just have a play and see what sounds right, and maybe add some chorus/reverb too if required.
Also try Strum Electric GS-1 with Funk Styles/Presets adding delay/chorus again if required (although not as good as Ample)

that's the one i was trying to remember. pettinhouse makes some great guitar emulations, and that one is not only very good, it is free.

What's stopping you from using a real guitar? You don't need a high level of proficiency to record a few muted notes and it will always sound better than samples, plus learning an instrument is fun.

As opposed to muting with what? lol
Yes, Ample Sound all do it nicely, as said.
    And Orange Tree Samples.
The Pettinhouse one is okay too.
You probably specifically want the Strat version of palm mutes though, I reckon.

Also none of these are VSTs, but sample libraries.
    Kontakt is VST.

Ample and Kontakt I thought were VSTi (instruments) although as you say these mentioned all sample based libraries.
VST are the single Fx used as send/insert effects but I may be wrong maybe they just use VST for both now

Yes, sorry. Ample Sound is a VSTi. Kontakt is VST (Virtual Studio Technology) that is a sample player.
A VSTi is a standalone, something like LinPlug SaxLab. Or Ample Sound!
OTS, Pettinhouse etc; makers of sample libraries for a VST called Kontakt.
I was actually addressing the member of the OP.
    ? Ah.
    VST was invented by Steinberg.
On Windows, your VSTs are .dll.
On macOS we have VST2 as well, but we also have .au, VST3, and aax.
Yet they are all VST in essence, you see?

I see thanks for explaining  yes true on PC our VST and VST2 are .dll and VST3 are.vst3 here on PC (Windows)

They are samples, not an emu.
Yes, I am pedantic with words.
So we can all understand each other.

    First 3 Example are:

Bass: Kontakt Library > Scarbee Rickenbacker Bass
    Lead Guitar: RealLPC vst

Last short example is just also a Kontakt Library > Evolution Hollowbody Blues

The key to that 80's pop guitar sound is tons of compression. And often chorus too.

TC Electronics Sustainer+ Parametric eq -plugin will give you THAT sound. Just slap it on a channel.

You can get similar enough results with almost any adjustable compressor, but the TC sustainer still has a very unique sound I have not been able to fully replicate. Sadly it's shit shit for actual live guitar playing because of the noise suppression nonsense, but it is great with samples.
