Four new tracks this month

Discussion in 'Work in Process' started by Lenny Belardo II, Sep 26, 2021.

  1. I've been away from the fora for a while. I'm trying some new arrangement styles and working on a new vocal delivery with an AKG 820 valve mic which really likes close up work. I beg your indulgence, your blaspheming excommunicated Pope, Lenny II.

Track 1... First 3 minutes. Loved the arrangement. There was absolutely no need to bring in the guitars and drums after that point. The track suddenly went from uber modern to plodding soft-rock T'Pau shit.

Lets imagine that you faded the track out just before 3 minutes.
    Did I love track?
You know what I'm going to say here.
Your voice really does not carry well in that register. It's not about the tuning or the delivery.
Your voice in that octave sounds too whiney and nasally. It's bordering on uncomfortable to listen to.
I don't think it's something you can fix with a vocal plugin.

I know you are determined to sing on your own tracks so I don't know why you don't give a lower register a try.
Nick Cave doesn't have the greatest tone which is why he doesn't stray into the octave you're attempting. Try to sing it like Nick Cave would!

So when track 2 started with the exact same delivery... I just couldn't listen to more than 30 seconds.
It was like you had taken the same vocal from song 1, and made a remix.

I know others reading this may think I'm being harsh. But it's because your songs have the potential to be brilliant.

I like your way of composing. Some bits reminded me of Alan Parsons. But I'm not a friend of the voice pitch shifting, just not my cup of tea.

All Popes should be so fucking talented as artists.

  7. I recall you attempting to compose a song a day to improve your skills. I listened. You didn't have an ounce of skill or talent. I suggest you keep your criticisms to yourself until you have an inkling of what it's like to write, play and sing songs.

  8. What can I do? I can't listen to my voice wavering and wandering. So I use melodyne. Do you sing? Do you know how hard it is to hear yourself sing and not be on pitch? This is my greatest fear. Singing. I've put it off all my life. Now I'm doing it. And if I'm told not to, what should I do? What would you do? Just give up because it's not good enough. Only perfectionists should make music? Sorry it's not your cup of tea.

If you can only accept feedback in the form of praise then you shouldn't really post here.

You may hear a poor man's Michael Stipe when you're singing.
The rest of us hear this...

The analogy here is that you most people don't mind their own bathroom smells (not sure whether the brain tricks us that it's not so bad, or whether it knows to ignore our sense of smell when we have bowel movements). But you certainly smell them when you walk into a bathroom following someone else who has just done a number 2.

  10. Why have I not shared music recently? Now I remember. "Voice is whiny and nasally. i couldn't listen to more than 30 seconds. You need to find a VST???" Seriously!! The blatant ignorance of assuming a VST can make it more palatable. Sing like Nick Cave.
I put these songs up because I was proud of them. Just my playing and singing. Careful attention to lyrics. A message.
Anyway, thanks. Call me precious, call me snowflake or whatever you think. I just wanted to share. It won't happen again.

  11. Thanks for the analogy that my songs are shit. It must feel good to be the kind of person that has the ability to make somebody feel so worthless that they feel that they don't even have a reason to live. That's how I feel now. Congratulations.

I think you'll find that my original post said that "I love the arrangement" and that "your songs have the potential to be brilliant".
The second poster you chose to respond to said "likes your way of composing" and reminds of "Alan Parsons".

However you choose to only focus on the negatives.... and respond like a sulky teenager.

Nice selection of artwork/covers for the tracks.
The only track that has potential is track #4 "Time To Go Home",but not with these vocals/your voice.
Give this track to a female vocalist/artist(male vocals are fine too) in your country or to an International artist.
(That is if you are serious about your work, if not as demos these tracks are fine).

    I love your lyrics...
I like the feeling of your music, even if I'm not a fan of the rhythmic arrangements/production. (I like the guitars/strings/pianos)

Unlike most of the others I don't think your voice is a problem. (I prefer your upper range, it reminds me of Grandaddy and Neil Young but I dont like your lower range because suddenly it flips to REM). In my opinion you should develop this "fragile' feeling in your voice.

My favourites are 1 and 4. I agree with the fact that the end of track 1 is spoiled by this unnecessary arrangement.
I really enjoyed listening to your music... again.

Thanks for sharing it with us and I'm still looking forward to collaborate with you one day as I'm looking for a talented author such as you ^^

Great sound and I like the arrangements.

For me I like a more natural sounding voice – that’s just my taste though and not a criticism of your creations.

Thank you for posting your new material, I enjoyed listening and I’ll play them again.

Excuse me if I don't get the violins out but having a crap singing voice is not a physical disability.
95% of the population fall into this category.

Rather than request his account be deleted in a drama-queen strop, the OP should remind himself how privileged he is to be able to have the financial means and time to afford himself to indulge in his passion on a daily basis.

Most people have real world hardships and adversities to deal with in their lives which I would suggest are worth more sympathy and attention than a few randoms not liking the sound of your vocals.

"We" hear nothing of the sort, and dodgingly alluding that Monsignor Belardo's voice wafts shit is a real wanker thing to do.

When we X disagree with a post we are obligated to enunciate the reason, and so my reply.

    Oh here we go.

The only constructive feedback that was acceptable to this OP would have been "oh wow, that was really wonderful... "

If you read back to my original post... I said that the first three minutes of his track was excellent, told him I didn't like his vocal and gave him a suggestion as to how he could improve it.

My analogy with the bathroom wasn't to say that his stuff was shit. Again it was a suggestion that he may only be hearing what he wants to hear when he listens back to his performance.

I'm actually disappointed that he has decided to delete his account. It's a complete overreaction.
To infer that was my intention is just ridiculous.
