Greetings. I have perhaps a naive question. I am going to make a video of myself playing guitar. I want to use a professional backing track to play against and put my playing through my amp sim. I was told to put these two into my DAW (Reaper), then export to Premiere Pro to get rid of the video recorder audio and replace video audio with the DAW created backing track and my playing.

My question is whether these simple processes could all be done in Premiere Pro without using the DAW. In other words does Premiere pro have the capability to handle importing a backing track and recording my playing so I stay all in one app? Or am I being naive in thinking that I could record myself live into the video editor.

Thanks with your patience on such a basic understanding question.

You record the music in a DAW of your choice and then save it as a "*. WAV" file.
Then "import the finished WAV file" into "Premier Pro". The WAV should have 44.1 Hz and 24 bit or better 32 bit floating point.

It is better to record the music in the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), because that's what it was made for.

I'm not familiar with Premiere Pro, but I checked and it has VST support, so it seems that you could potentially do it all in any of these programs (Reaper has video support), if that's what you want.

What you described is the "proper way", though, and it won't limit you in the future, in case of more advanced projects.
