LISTEN AND UNDERSTAND! Even if you don't like the song or the artist whatever...this is an excellent example of what it is to intelligently engineer and structure your track. Every element is essential, every element is composed, the technical proficiency is there, as well as the artistic goal:

Oh an excuse the youtube compression...have you noticed youtube started to over-compress HD audio? I mean yeah they were always compressing but now they went much harder on the threshold to an extent where it is no longer peaking 0dbFS D:

That video had audio that used to be much louder and dynamic than now

Here is also another track that just has such fantastic structural engineering to it *yes* :

    Loops, loops and loops!!!

Do you really ask for respect for this?

Intelligent Engineering <----- Are you serious? Do you actually play any real instrument? Do you actually know anything basic about music at all?

Come to my place and I´ll learn you something serious about non-Intelligent Engineering!

    What a waist of time!

 Are you serious about your topic?

I studied audio-engineering for a couple of years, but this, my 6 year old daughter can produce... with Musicmaker :headbang: :bleh:

I don't understand why there is a need to get mad over what boils down to an opinion. Deadmau5 might not be your bag but I want you to ask yourself how you can be a music producer and completely shut out a genre of music or even a whole category like Electronic? You might not think it takes talent to write something like this but it does. Not to mention there is nothing wrong with using loops if you process them and make them your own, however of course they should be the icing on the cake and not the main attraction. In the end all that really matters is the finished product. No offense phloopy but you sound like you're coming off of that elitist "you don't play a real instrument and like Electronic music therefore you're not a REAL musician" mentality.

Here's some Electronic musicians :wow: that use loops:

If your 6 year old daughter can make this please send her over to my house because I could use a tutor. I'm willing to learn from anyone.

I guess so these guys don't get butthurt I'll edit the post and also add another track that is of a completely different genre that uses 'real instruments' which I still appreciate for the intelligence and spectacular cleanliness of the production, composition and engineering... I know alot like this...

I LOVE FRONTLINE ASSEMBLY BTW!!! That's my fav track from transmissions man *yes*

Leave it up just as is, I see no reason that your post has to apply to every musician out there. In my opinion if someone doesn't agree with something here they can either skip it or give their opinion without the need to shit on someone else. Front Line Assembly is fucking awesome, one of my favorites. I actually have some new Transmissions lined up but I've been so caught up with the relaunch and the everyday tasks that I haven't had time. I still need to get back to a few people that I didn't respond to yet, can't seem to catch up on responding to my mail. :(

I kind of get the point that this track could be useful to analyze the effect of subtle changes in a tracks structure / build / feeling and maybe learn something. I also appreciate how everything in a track has it's purpose to create a whole.

But when it comes to this track it's probably a matter of taste just like it is with most things. It's a solid production, but it doesn't give me "that feeling" or seem better constructed than many others.

That being said... be nice kids :)

Of course, it is always about taste...you can't escape the subjectivity of music...and in no way is it the best composition in the world...

but the minimal nature of the track is a great excercise for an engineer and music theorist to analyse and listen to how the composer
makes use of simple triplets to drive the whole entire track forward in a very subtle manner...

think of this as like a professional masters degree excercise, where we are analysing a professional sound in a professional manner...regardless of whether
    we like it or not...

I think it is good for a practicing musician who is passionate about all aspects of sound to train themselves like that...then they can make use and apply
these techniques to their music that they like and enjoy...

and it's ok if people go nuts about it...I get a good laugh from the people that rage anyway...the interwebz doesn't affect me one bit...it's a hell whole I can't give two shits about...sometimes I like to do it myself so I get some rage in return and laugh even more

Every piece of music is literally brimming with lessons to learn. I've conditioned myself to analyze even stuff I don't like because it helps you grow as a musician.

^ I've conditioned myself too *yes* ...like I fucking hate rock music...but some of these rock producers just have such a good engineering skill that It just forces me to admit and say 'maaaaan, this track is REAAAALLLY WELL DONE!!!!'

Because of that mentality I developed...I now enjoy listening to jazz...lawl...I really love the dynamics of it all

I feel like we can never develop as proper musicians if we don't throw away our rigid conservative nature and learn to listen professionally rather than conservatively...like just because alot of heavy metal in it has some really controversial concepts in the music doesn't mean I shouldn't listen with analysis and understanding of the type of music...or else how else are we going
to be diverse and dynamic musicians...how else will we get employment as composers for movies and video games? *yes*

I totally agree... I often listen to tracks I like, close my eyes and try to break down the elements in my head to find out what it is exactly that makes it a great track. Usually there are so much more elements than you normally hear, and those things make the track complete. What I always found a track which makes good use of all it's elements is Ame - Rej (original mix)

    ^ another minimal great!!!!

try this one, Xsze knows this cuz I sent it to him...this is another example of excellent engineering composition with heavy depth:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DWsLLmXkfo

It's not just about less is more Xsze, it's about presenting innovative composition, and how well you can structure using elements that are unusual as well *yes*

What I like about that Deadmau5 track is that he uses simple music theory techniques and applies them intelligently to raise the standards of the 4/4 sound...

if you notice, the deadmau5 track isn't actually a straight 4/4 track...he uses bass drum triplet counter-meldoies to the kick, therefore turning it into a compound time signature that plays along with the melodies at irregular intervels :wow:

And then the Sade track which I've posted...if you notice all the elements play along with the snare and are influenced by the snare breaks. I GET EXCITED LISTENING TO IT SUCH GENIUS WORK!!!! :break:  :wow: *yes*

Aww you don't like rock, it's a pretty diverse genre and includes quite a bit of subgenres as well. Could be something like this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WekDz_Qmr3A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bb-2WVepAUQ

    or this:
The Aqua Velvets - Shrunken Head

I appreciate the production and the composition...but man do I ever feel very left out and excluded whenever I listen to it...I feel like I'm with a group of people I don't belong with when I listen to it and I'm forced to be like that group or like them...

Rock is tough for me because you need to really be apart of it...and not everybody is like that...but in terms of production, composition and everything else...I like to study it...like professor style 'n shit...

You just have to be open man, try reading the lyrics. Rock is what got us here, if you feel that way it's because you're not used to listening to it by choice so it seems foreign to you. What about Hendrix...not feeling Hendrix? I have an idea why don't you sample some rock and make a song with it, that might give you a whole other level of appreciation for the genre.

I actually do appreciate it quite alot. I have some rock tracks that I do enjoy and last year I've listened to God knows allooooooooooooooot of rock *yes*

but man...it's just one of those lousy subjectivity and style things...

but you do give me a good idea for sampling a rock track...I'll try that and see if I can post it in the our music thread :)

I liked the Pink Floyd track btw...smooth and chill *yes*

SEE CATALYST SEE!!!! I LIKE IT TOO!!!! :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:

The lyrics to that Pink Floyd song are sublime and interesting to analyze:

    Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
    Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
    And the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
    Moved from side to side
    Black and Blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
    Up and Down
And in the end it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
    The poster bearer cried
Listen son, said the man with the gun
    There's room for you inside
    Down and Out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about
    With, without
And who'll deny that's what the fightings all about
Get out of the way, it's a busy day
And I've got things on my mind
For want of the price of tea and a slice
    The old man died

Do your thing man, sample some stuff. Try out all different kinds of material, you never know what could be an amazing remix.
