Hey.

I am going to have a go at making some Kontakt wallpapers for some Kontakt Librarys I've built for my own use and if they turn out okay I'd like to make some for other Librarys that dont appear in the Wallpaper requests thread.

I've grabbed some from the request thread hoping to get the dimensions and resolution but they all seem to be slightly different.

I'm a bit OCD about details so what is the optimum dimensions and resolution to use?

I remember I saw @bobdule posted somewhere about the exact dimension in metrics, plus highlighting the visible area of the wallpaper in the Library Browser. Couldn't find it after few search, will update if I manage to find it.

 

Height 98px, width min. 215px, but I found that 588px is best, but can be more.
If you want perfect symmetria with instruments size in the right, then 632px is the right one.

I will knock up a test one this afternoon using Height 98px x width 588px and see how it looks.

If I was to make some to share here I want them to be useful to our members.

 

One quick question, is there any benifit to using Photoshop to edit the images but then Illistrator to put the Wallpaper together.
I have both so just wondered.

 

All this is assuming you are using a recent version of Kontakt.
Kontakt 5 dimensions are different.

Kontakt wants .png as a wallpaper.
.png is bitmap.
PS makes bitmap.
Illustrator uses vector.
Vector has to be converted to bitmap before use then.

 

I dont know, personally I use only Photoshop for wallpapers and I never felt limited.

 

Well the answer is no, Oly. As I implied above.
Although how do we know what isn't considered a waste of time for the member?
Unless they started the design in vector in Illustrator, and then converted to bitmap and then imported into PS to make the wall.
Considering the size of the wallpaper, and the knowledge involved to get best resolution, vector seems pointless.

 

I use Kontakt 5 & 6 plus 6 Portable.

From the posts I have checked (and there are too many to search them all) if I wanted to to have a stab at making some for the community what size should I provide then in for Kontakt 5 compatability?

Good point and I have already made a start in Photoshop.

 

Photoshop was a start of the Covid Lockdown purchase and I've been slowing getting to grips with it and so far I am loving it

haha well I am grateful that you did as I did not know Kontakt 5 was a different size, so thank you.

Please excuse me for doing this but can I just clarify.
The first (mono colour) Sound Dust is 590 x 98 px
and
the large one is 590 x 98px

So is the first for kontakt 5 and the 2nd for kontakt 6?

 

They aren't both the same size!
But yeah; 5 then Kontakt.
I would say 6, but they dropped the numbering so we are just on 'Kontakt' now!
So I'm actually still on Kontakt 3.2, to be specific!

I've been using GIMP to create templates I post here. Below I have attached the template as a png file.

Note that the visible image is not the same size as the template. Here is a snapshot showing what I mean (not to scale). Left Margin = 3, Top Margin = 26

I've uploaded the the GIMP template file in a ZIP if that helps.
