Ryzen 9 5900x. X570 or B550? Is X570 noisy?

    Hello everyone.
I'm building a new system around Ryzen 9 5900x, and was planning to buy a X570 mobo, ASUS Tuf Gaming x570 plus wifi.

But I started to have some doubts because all x570 motherboards have a little fan, and the PC is in my studio.

Are those fans too noisy? Are they always on? Should I get a B550 instead? Any other thoughts?

    Thank you!

What you want is one of the newer X570S motherboards. They have a fanless chipset design along with updated feature set.
A better board would be the ASUS ProArt X570-Creator WIFI, imho.

Also consider a decent air cooler. Noctua has a CPU matching feature on each product page.
A decent AIO option is the Artic Freezer II (280mm, 360mm or 420mm).

@quadcore64 's advice to go for passive chipset design os ofc 100% on point so just my 2c - I work on 2 59xx based PCs, one with "old" hero and one with dark hero (passive). Never noticed the chipset fan on old crosshair hero. Just about everything else is louder. Noctua fans, premium AIO (yes, even the pump).. But even then, with passive there is one thing less that can fail ;)

Only one retailer here in Canada that has it listed. Back-ordered status (basically pay before they order).

I actually prefer quiet, well designed air coolers over water. The Artic Freezer II is the current recommended choice for water cooling.
    Well designed and highly efficient.

Some new fanless X570S motherboards are out already, and I assume more new models are on the way? AMD are also doing a platform refresh next year with 5nm CPU, so I'm currently watching and waiting, and not quit sure what to do :)

Some things I figured out out of personal experience, and some of these cost me A LOT (both in money and in health)...

    a) The little mobo fan on the x570 chipset while it can cause noise, I doubt you'll even be able to hear it or that it will cause you problems (although I've read stories about noisy mobo fans, all of them were faulty)... Imho it's not a reason not to buy an x570 mobo...

    b) The biggest noise suckers are CPU fans, no matter what they tell you, noiseless and bullshit... Of course the same applies for case fans, they all produce noise (duh?!?)... I almost got crazy (literally) and suffered from tinnitus and hyperacusis simultaneously after trying for a week straight to make my fans "noiseless"... What a freakin' idiot was I?!?

    c) Greatest advice I can give you, buy all the parts you want, ignore the noise factor (fans etc.) AND finally solve the noise issue by buying long cables (1 for USB, 1 for power, 1 for your display and 1 powered usb-hub) and just move your pc to another room! It was the best thing I did for both myself and my computer!!

The fan of the mb can work at very low speed and is not audible. (Asrock extreme4 x570). Take care of the other fans (case and cpu)

I have had a 5600x on MSI Tomahawk X570 for a couple of months. I was worried about that fan before I got it, but in reality, it has never even turned on while using the computer. Only when I do fan tuning or testing have I seen that it actually works. But when it is set to "silent mode" it doesn't spin until chipset temperature rises to far over 60c, which it has not done a single time for me (in benchmarks like CInebench and heavy high FPS gaming with ultra graphics) Doesn't really go much over 50c on the chipset. So don't let that fan stop you. It is not a real issue to be concerned about.

And on my DAW installation, I just set all case fans to manual control at 50% so they are all inaudible. Duing DAW use, I noticed the system load is really low anyway, not even close to what it does while gaming.

It is also said: the lower the temperatures inside the case, the more durable the hardware. Good if you also have a front fan (or 2x) and a bottom fan, and a fan that blows the air out of the case. 800 rounds per minute (RPM) are quiet, sometimes a fan control helps.

Noctua fans are great indeed. This is my case setup, all Noctua

Edit: I just saw your picture - yes, that's a cool thing! Noctua is great, except for the color - they are now also black because of the glass side panels.

Hello @boogiewoogie, I would leave the "silent mode", it saves a lot of energy, but it affects the life of the CPU. Many take 55 C (settings in the bios.)

Silent mode is just for that little chipset fan, so not the CPU itself.

    Ah - O.K i understand.

I installed an Akasa fan controller for 4 fans: Example: Fan 1 = 25 degrees / 810 RPM / alarm at 65 ° Celsius A certain temperature can be preprogrammed for each channel, at which an acoustic as well as an optical alarm is triggered if this is exceeded.

I have 4x fans (2x front - 1 x bottom - 1 x back) from Scythe, the dust filters are good but dust always comes in and I vacuum once a year and clean everything thoroughly. I'm waiting for a dust-free PC to be invented.

from my fan control settings. (I don't have "pump fan" and "sys fan 4") This is all in idle mode so they are spinnig at pretty low RPM at the moment.
