Is this the biggest waste of money? I was expecting something a lot nicer, rounder and warmer for the way this looks and costs.
I saw it for $ 5,700, so I'd rather grab Waves PuigChild Compressor SVT for $ 35. The Stamchild certainly sounds great if you earn your money with it full-time - it is certainly a purchase that is worthwhile.
Not a very good or thorough demo really. Hard to tell anything at all from the few seconds of audio you got hear. Wait until he, or others, upload a proper demo before judging it. That's my two cents at least!
Compressor plugins have come very far. Equalizer plugins are not there yet in terms of boosting high frequencies in a natural way ( outside of nebula), but compressors are on a high level. Paying 6k $ for this, idk, i would then rather get a looptrotter monster 2 for half the price, the stamchild is overpriced just like most pultec clones. https://vintageking.com/looptrotter-audio-monster-compressor-2 Grayhill switches with lifetime warranty 6N2P NOS military grade electron tubes Burr Brown Sound + integrated circuit components Intuitive, soft deesser (compressor mode) for warm, deep yet silky smooth sound Thick, heavy duty, coated aluminum front panel Three independent devices of an original design in one piece: FET compressor/limiter, tube saturation, mixer of dry and wet signal Make the Monster Compressor 2 a very creative tool with great versatility, able to: compress and warm up and punch up the sound, process subgroups, stems or just single tracks during tracking or mixing, master
I agree with you about the Looptrotter Monster, but we are not talking about EQ plug-ins here and the stamchild is not a Pultec clone either
My point was that its expensive for what it does when some plugin compressor could practically do the same thing. EQ thing was a small pro bono rant.
first off over 95% of music listeners will not or ever hear anything if any of a significant difference in the sound if you use this $5,700 compressor or a homemade circuit you built and housed into a soup can. If you have money to throw away go for it, but don't expect music buyers to pay more for music recorded using it just because you want bragging rights and have a swollen head. David Hannum originated the phrase "there's a Sucker Born Every Minute" and would be proud of applying it to this compressor, everyone everywhere searching for the "Holy Grail" and willing to pay anything for it. The everyday music listeners are the only important ones that count and pay for the music they want to hear. Last edited: Aug 12, 2021
I bought an SSL comp replica from stam and belive me, the price is just the beggining. You'll be waiting for several years before the thing is even built.
You can have two mono external plugins or one stereo plugin and you can process a stereo source in M/S.
Right, I can split a stereo source into M/S and treat them separately in the DAW, but that doesn't make the compressor M/S. This just doesn't work.
