This thing wouldn't've been free were it actually useful. It's Shteven Shlate we're talking about, after all.

Many other plugs do similar things, EQ's like AirEQ,
many Harmonic Exciters or even Tape simulators etc..

But I think one of the best at it could be Kush Clariphonic,
as it gives some choices on the Character of the effect, and is quite refined..
    (at very Low levels ofc..)

Not currently using it, but I found it interesting

This one blurs the highs considerably. No wonder they offer it now for free, and use it just for advertising.
Anyway, I have a low opinion on quality of Slate products in general.

This was released on black friday 2020 and has been "free" ever since. Has there been an update or is there another reason for this being in the software news section?

another piece of useless imaginary magic to trick those who may hear a rainbow of changes. If you tell anyone that something will boost, improve and transform their music into a masterpiece they will actually hear and imagine improvements, I have used this idea as a prank, I built and put an electronic circuit in a small enclosure with a pot and a bypass switch, turned the knob a bit then switched it on and off many would say it made subtle differences when in reality the switch in either position did absolutely nothing. The gullible are easily fooled with snake oil.

This is really not great. I have it and never use it. Just sounds cheap. You're better off using MAAG EQ 4

Kurwaudio often list things with, ahem, a slight delay. This thing has been out for more than half a year.
Fresh Air actually does something. They don't even lie when saying it's a dynamics processor. Namely it's a dynamic EQ with detection algorithms that were supposed to sound good on any material, but I think Stevie Late told Kilohearts to dumb it down lest they wanna people actually use their free plugin without paying him. Hence this.
I personally use a combination of Pro-MB and SlickEQ.

A company called Funk Logic used to do these rack fillers, which looked fancy but did nothing, like this "Palindrometer":

Apparently was effective for unwanted people in the control room.

As legend has it, Motörhead used to have a "DFA"-knob somewhere which they got venue roadies or other enthusiastic sound people to tweak when they knew their sound was already OK. DFA = Does Fuck All.

As a generalizing statement, I'd disagree with it. There are tons of free pluggies which are very useful.

It wasn't meant to be a generalization. I was talking specifically about one greedy bastard and his plugin company.

just spent five minutes looking for this to no avail, only to scroll down and see it a few posts below

they had one of these on a sidecar in a studio i spent a lot of time in. when a musician was using impossible descriptors ("could you make this sound more green...") you'd flip a switch and twist a knob and play back the same exact part. the playback sounded more green 99% of the time
