hi

If i try to start the compatibility check (bat)
i see it start quickly but after it starts it Off again just as quickly

test was on an older Dell m4600
cpu i7 2820qm
Win10

when i start the the Emu in VSThost
everything works fine until connect all the "cables"
and i hit a note (with the onboard keyboard)
before al the cables i could hear sound being generated
after, it just crash (the whole vsthost app)

is this i7 to old? i thought it was something like core2 minimum.

Watch just a single raw saw waveform played at C3 below - it has a smooth balanced roll-off on the higher region of the spectrum. And while it still does not say a lot about the qualities of the synths (all the others are pretty good sounding in comparison) most of the Virus components sounds subjectively 'smooth'.

You both need to make sure that the ROM file is placed in the same folder as the bat files

Hello @ArticStorm, the Sylenth 1 is one of the best software synthesizers ever made. It has a powerful sound that can only really be found in hardware synthesizers. How did he do that ?

AMAZONA: Hello Lennar, the Sylenth seems to be based on extremely sophisticated algorithms. Have you already been involved in other audio projects or did you only acquire your DSP knowledge for the Sylenth?

Lennar: I've worked on many audio and DSP projects for Siemens VDO and the University of Twente (Holland). The main focus was on equalizer filters for automotive multimedia. I have also worked on scientific research projects that dealt with active multi-channel noise suppression.

AMAZONA: So you have a solid background!

The Sylenth is very frugal because of the good sound in terms of CPU consumption. How do you feel about the CPU usage of similar software? Perhaps the responsible programmers do not know how to achieve such a good performance, or are they not given the time by the management to optimize the code accordingly?

Lennar: Well, at first it seems to be mainly the big companies that obviously don't care enough about code optimization. That simply costs time and time is known to be money! And they want to keep the code as platform-independent as possible. If one is highly optimized for an OS, it is harder to port it, which again means more work -> time and -> money.

AMAZONA: So you really chose a new approach to developing your algorithms instead of ’only’ rewriting known algorithms in SSE assembler without using the C ++ compilers?

Lennar: Yes, I started to take a closer look at the known algorithms in order to finally improve them fundamentally. The oscillators were possibly the biggest part. Most of the digital oscillators I know start to lose quality in very low and in very high registers. Some companies use very large wavetables or long interpolation filters, but this requires a lot of CPU cycles and / or slow memory access. I've developed a new technique to work around these problems. My oscillators sound clear and of high quality across the entire frequency range. And that from 0 Hz up to half the sampling rate, but only requires a fraction of the CPU. This enables me to generate many oscillators at once without overloading the CPU. Some synthesizers use a trick to simulate unison. Mostly it's a simple chorus, but that doesn't sound really good. In Synlenth, every voice is really a real independently generated oscillator, which of course sounds much better!

? The test app (which is separate from the emulator) generates wav files as it does not integrate with the audio card. It is meant to ascertain if the hardware you are going to use is even capable of running it.
