I have recently come across the 'Big Sur' patcher by Bensova and was wondering if anyone has used it on their Mac or hackintosh?

I have a Mac mini 2012 with 16GB, Quad Core i7 & 3TB SSD and wondering if it would be able to run Big Sur...

Has anyone tried this?

Of course, I have a MacBook Pro 2015 15" that I will use as my studio machine in the meanwhile

 

You can install big sur with patcher. But the problem is they removed support for that model for a specific reason.it could slow down your mac
Also can create some errors.i think staying with catalina is the safest bet.But if you are curious take a look.but risk is yours. Make sure to create a backup before upgrading.it will help a lot.

 

Hackintosh do not need to patch anything since you can define the systemdefinition as you like

 

Before trying make a backup and check what stuff will not work.
Some hardware do not even support metal which will make macos loo and behave quite bad, not worth it imo

 

I tried Big Sur on my Mac mini, runs well apart from the only thing being that when I open projects on cubase, after a few minutes my fan starts running like crazy, where as if I open the same project running Mojave, the fan runs up a bit but not to the extent that it is going crazy - decided to revert back to Mojave

 

I just installed it in my MacBook Pro 13”
Mid-2012. I already have 16 GB RAM and an SSD and so far so good. Followed Ben Sova’s instructions, ran the installer and the post-installation kexts and so far, so good. Easiest install. Gonna give this baby some more shelf life.

Will install music making apps and test some more.Worst case scenario I can restore from a backup and stay in Catalina, but so far, so good.

Please let me know how it goes, I have my Mac mini which I am debating selling, however I am on the shelf about this...Want to sell it but at the same time want to give it more life with Big Sur. Like I said I am unsure about Big Sur on the Mac mini because when I opened up a cubase projects the fans started going mad, so don't know if it has f****d the heat sync up or something.

At the moment the Mac mini is sitting on my studio desk and is ready for the new owner to set it up.

 

I did it and I must report the experiment was successful. No complaints here.
