and of course the rightholder is responsible for you turning the volume up when using a modified copy. oneself is never responsible for anything.

Thanks BaSsDuDe. As suggested above, I do use MalwareBytes Windows Firewall Control which blocks everything by default, but I've always wanted to be sure that my VST's were explicitly blocked, so I've tried to figure this out for ages without any success.

It might not make any difference but there's still something really reassuring about seeing that it's explicitly blocked in the Windows Firewall (and the hosts file).

Anyway, I did find out something moderately interesting, while investigating whether Fapvilter are incorporated (they are) or have shareholders (they don't.)

The Head of Financial Derivatives (Amsterdam stock exchange) is a man called Dirk Donker (I'm not making that up!)

I think we can all agree that this revelation is the best revelation about anything and anyone ever?
Also, maybe, put an end to arguments about anything in the world and just giggle for a second!? While possibly clutching our sides. Also gasping? Possibly hyperventilating at the extraordinary, unironic and serious name of a serious man in a serious suit; and someone who is basically the head of the Amsterdam stock exchange? Who has proudly kept the magnificent and totally serious name: Dirk Donker!

Either name, alone, would be almost too much for satire or mockery. Together? I have been crying w/ laughter at the thought of him investigating financial fraud. Possibly while wearing a cape? Donkman!

I don't know man , I think your comparison of software and cars or an instrument is really weak

If you think it's ok to steal someone else's work you have explained why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It's the same thing and explains why you can not see the same amount of work goes into creating anything, no matter what it is. I think if people think it is ok to steal someone else's hard work, it's their integrity and character that is weak. It's not ok. Stealing knowing it's not ok and stealing believing that is just fine are the difference between conscience and none.

I’m not talking about creation though. Clearly , manufacturing a car or something you can hold in your hands is not the same as stealing software. I’m not saying any kind of stealing should be tolerated but to think that all of them are the same is just kinda weird tbh. That’s why if you run out of Best Buy with a copy of Ableton they probably won’t even chase you out but you will be charged with GTA if you steal a car. Very different.

I am talking about the creation because that is the true reason any protection on anything ever existed. Additionally, it's why the music industry is screwed but not in the application sense. Spotify and others have literally all but destroyed true copyright. Shame they never bothered to secure that.
Intellectual property and ownership down to property if you pass it to anything that has ever been invented was the reason protection, copyright and security was invented because not everyone is honest.

As for software, people go to the YIFY site for example. The guy is in jail, it's not YIFY. They're after the super-pirates not the end-users so on a GTA level you're correct. They simply can not be bothered arresting millions of people because theoretically, the moment you record anything from the airwaves, even a TV commercial you have broken the law., so they only want the big guys.
It is however no different to GTA in theft law -but the amount of people who steal software versus cars is likely 1,000 times more. They do not have the resources or the desire, that simple.

Exactly lol, so the damage is not as detrimental. It’s not like the code is stolen and then repackaged as another product for profit. The fact that a company wants to tell me that Even after buying the software I am still not able to like let my friend use it like what. even though I paid for it , OH and they have unlimited supply of software! it’s not like they have limited stock of timeless 3 in a warehouse somewhere lol. Just like a car or a physical item that needs to be manufactured or fabricated which , when you factor I things like contracts, insurance, rent, overhead for a location, etc, things start to really look different. I’ve heard of companies being run completely remotely with no office or real HQ’s and believe me they aren’t struggling to make ends meet. This community is fairly small compared to the millions of people buying plugins today who don’t even know what warez is. Most companies are doing just fine especially Fab Filter. there are however smaller, newer developers who could actually be affected from this but I’ve seen this community do right by them and bought the software to support them once they tried it! Probably because it’s reasonably priced too!

This isn't actually true -- not in the USA at least. Of course, Hollywood and the record industry tried to make it happen when video recorders first came out. They wanted to be able to keep selling everyone video tapes at nearly $100 a pop. But in Sony vs. Universal City Studios, the Supreme Court found that using a Betamax video recorder for 'time shifting' free, over-the-air programming constituted fair use.

Of course, had it been Joe Bloggs rather than Sony on the other end of that lawsuit, we'd all still be paying $100 for crappy VHS cassettes of 90 year old movies.

You're not the only one. Like I said the conditions are diverse and complex. And increasing over time.

All Fabfilter plugins since ProQ v3 launched have timebombs. And no cr*cked release have fixed them all.

best solution is still Patched+Keygen - like R2R usual does. it just replaces the part of the "crypto" data and then you can use their keygen. thi somehow does not trigger the bombs and therefore much cleaner and reliable.

@BaSsDuDe if you use R2R releases since like felt forever - ofc you had never a timebomb hit, bcs R2R does Patched+keygen for a long time.

The bombs are triggered because the timebomb algorithm is not solved properly, and no it doesn't have to do with being online but with the code itself. That's why for some it took longer for the bomb to trigger.

The algorithm checks for any changes or modifications inside the code and if there is, it triggers.

Interesting approach, but your conclusion is at least questionable, not to say wrong. It makes no difference what you steal. Theft is theft and the stolen person suffers damage. The difference is from whom you steal it and what value it has. This decides on the measures that will be taken. This is the first mistake.
The second is the assumption that downloading warez is theft. No, downloading warez is participating in the use of stolen goods. To stay with the GTA allegory:
R2R, VR, etc don't steal a car, they rob entire margins. Then they give away thousands of stolen cars. This causes enormous damage to developers, because development, production, advertising, product maintenance and customer service cost a lot of money.

I don't want to start a discussion about good and evil here. For some, the teams are like Robin Hood and for others they are the plague. But the facts remain: The teams commit great robberies and the developers suffer financial damage. Software, data, cell phones, cars, space shuttles.... it doesn't matter. Makes no difference.

I also usually prefer R2R over other groups if I have the choice.
But in this case I tested personally a R2R release and it timebombed anyway. I shared my findings in the first thread about this issue here. Like 2 years ago.
Then I went down the rabbit hole of comments on past releases and all of them have reports of timebombs since ProQ v3 launch. All the way back to 2018, perhaps even late 2017.

No release is timebomb free. Perhaps is less likely with R2R, perhaps not. It's true for some people has never happened for years. But it's just because they got lucky with the bomb trigger conditions. At least until now.

I remember one of the confirmed conditions is a substancial use of the parameters/knobs/presets.
I was able to reproduce the timebomb quite fast several times because I happened to make a backup (including the license keys) shortly before it timebombed in my PC the first time.
I also carefully read R2R's newer releases infos and they never mentioned to have fixed the timebomb issue. Which they usually do and with all the reasons. Followed by some trolling to VR

I'm also convinced VR's releases aren't better than R2R's. The problem being nobody has figured out how to get rid of the thing.
