I installed my cracked studio one 5 and when i try to connect my account to presonus or try to download any additional content it would usually say 'Failed to connect to server. Please check your internet connection and try again.' but my internet is working fine for everything else
Could someone help me on this?

I don't think you can download additional content from Presonus with cracked S1. You should download the content provided by R2R from sister site and generate licenses.

Does R2R have the licenses to additional content?

it's funny when you can actually download content to cracked software from the mfg's own website. Or keep cracking the newest version from their own website, with the same 2+ version old keygen like Digital Performer. where they just give up :guru:

Open the file "HOSTS" at the location "c:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\" on your hard drive with a text editor (run it in admin context)
Inside of it search for a suspicious line like that: "0.0.0.0 licensing.presonus.com" and delete it (or place a # in front of that line)
Save the file to "HOSTS" without any extensiuon (like .txt") and check if you can reach the server now.

The HOSTS file works like a filter in these cases. Every line containing "0.0.0.0 www.xxx.com" transfers every call of www.xxx.com to the waste basket. Thgis way a program calling e.g. a licensing site won't succeed.
But be careful with deleting lines, it could lead you to render programs unusable because they phone home and may find your copy of the app to be warez. :)

    It's like @twoheart and @playtime say.
In general you shouldn't download anything using cr*cked software. Always a couple of exceptions.
Also in general is a good idea or mandatory to block access to the net just to use it.
It's mandatory in Studio One's case. The cr*ck does that using the hosts file method.

I use the v5.1 version which adds these lines:
    0.0.0.0 updates.presonus.com
    0.0.0.0 registration.presonus.com

I assume you mean you shouldn't download anything from the developer when using the cracked version of their software. :winker:

But this wouldn't prevent him from connecting to their homepage, only from the updates and registration page, right?
IOW, the DAW can't connect to Presonus because its going straight to these pages, but he should be able to manually connect to the general homepage.

Yes, it won't prevent the usage of the homepage and no other page unless explicitly defined in the HOSTS file AND of course unless you don't block the IP address of the presonus host.

By the way, @Xupito 's usage of 0.0.0.0 as the target is better than 127.0.0.1 because in the first version the browser waits for the nameservers to hand over the hosts IP and in a second step tries to open the host with the found IP and runs into an error while in the latter form (0.0.0.0) the browser directly presents you a "page not found".
This only saves a second each time a locked address is called but it sums up.

i mean if theres any limit in what i find wise doing would be to use a fixed* daw and then connect to their servers and then try to dl content, you are really begging for trouble.

i have a purchased copy but from what i remember S1 releases included a blocking and you would NEVER login or care about that window popping up it was just part of the installation process.

also, the news-feed in the start page would be blank, showing you are not connecting to their servers.if you do see the feed, most probably your copy will stop working within a couple of days.

btw, what "additional content", if its the stock libraries those are released and available too, so no need in attempting to get it from Pres. So if you dont have a feed and you cant dl anything, the fix is working.

I hope you didn't went made an account from their homepage have given personal info and then try to dl from a fixed S1, most probably the fix would not let you reach their servers but if you managed to reach them its not a wise move to keep making such attempts

It's taken from R2R's instructions so it should be reliable. Doesn't hurt to add presonus dot com but obviously I trust R2R wisdom.
For instance, for Meldaproduction stuff R2R blocks the home page meldaproduction dot com.

Then one day you find yourself checking the new features at the homepage and the browser won't work. It's like 30 minutes later "Oops wait, I forgot I had it blocked in the hosts file"
BTW here's a very cool free small app to help with managing the hosts file:
    https://www.sordum.org/8266/bluelifehosts-editor-v1-3/
I also found this improvement in recent warez releases. Didn't know why until I looked it up.
The funny moment came when I told this trick to a co-worker and he asked me where I found it :lmao:

should I block those ? the S1 installed in my machine is happily connecting to the internet and showing news and updates upon launching. Gave me zero problem so far, but should I block those addresses ?

I always block apps with my firewall unless any install instructions are more specific. then I will usually do both. So I have not personally had any software which did successfully "phone home" and then stop working.

What actually takes place when that does happen? The application sends some data to their website. What then actually disables it?

I don't know. I guess it's fine. Personally I wouldn't push my luck if I had a lot of work done with S1.
