    Hi all,

I've searched the forum for this issue but couldn't find anything so here it goes:

    [Windows 10 fully updated]
I had Maschine 2 installed already but now after trying to update it to v2.13 the standalone version crashes when trying to start and the VSTs crash on scan in Presonus.
I think NTKDaemon might be the culprit as this crashes on PC startup and crashed when being installed too.
I had this issue some time ago but I absolutely can't remember how I fixed it !! So I'm quite sure there must be a solution out there.

Things I already tried without any luck:
    - Uninstall and reinstall
    - Try other versions (incl. v2.12 by r2r and 2.11 by p2p)
    - close any firewalls and antivirus
    - Uninstall only NTKDaemon
    - Investigate on Event Viewer what Windows could tell me and that pointed me in the direction of ucrtbase.dll which is on system32
    - Run the System File Checker
    - Windows refresh-install (keeping my apps and personal data) - I was hoping this would repair that dll and it probably did but the original issue persists

    What am I missing??
    Thanks for any help

After double checking, looks like the issue with ucrtbase.dll still persists, according to Event Viewer

old version of "Byte riot" under 2.0.0 make crash Maschine.
you can isolate it, renaming the folder or the regedit location key

also check for double content extract in your packs if not matching versions have been used.
the crash come's from a outdated expansion. you can re add them one by one or little group to find the wrong one, blocking the load.
simply move them, re add in the same location.

I don't use any Maschine expansions.
Also the Maschine version I had previously installed was already v2.
Maschine crashes as soon as I click on the exe to try to open it.

If you don't have anything constructive to add, you might as well keep it to yourself. Thanks.

@bobdule could it be that I don't have Native Access installed? Should I ?

Does it just crash or do you get an error message as well (missing dependencies, etc.)?

My MASCHINE 2 Application Freezes or Crashes at Startup
In this video we show you how to reinitialize the MASCHINE 2 database both on a Mac OS as well as on a Windows system.

That has nothing to do with it.

Incidentally, if you are using a k'd kontakt using a library that was not actually installed (eg a library where you put the folder containing instruments/samples/documentation in your samples folder and use Add Library, rather than actually running the NI installer) - when you remove it, deleting just the komplete.db file from the folder in the video above will rebuild the database and remove those old "ghost" entries of deleted instruments in your Maschine/KK browser.

    NB
For KK, delete the komplete.db from C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Komplete Kontrol

For Maschine delete the komplete.db from C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Maschine 2 AND tfrom the Komplete Kontrol folder

    @FrankPig

I had already done that too.
These are the only files I have on AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Maschine 2
    I don't have Komplete Kontrol.

Have you already tried just reinstalling the redistributables themselves? It's why I asked if it gave you any errors like missing dependencies or if it just didn't start at all.

    Maschine 2 depends on concrt140.dll, msvcp140.dll, and vcruntime140.dll.

It just crashes as soon as I click it. Before even showing any kind of loading attempt.

Trying now the KG from R2R v2.12 I get this error:

    upload_2021-5-10_1-1-28.png
    upload_2021-5-10_1-2-19.png
But in the end it says "Successfully Registered!"

Studio One fails to scan the VSTs too.

I didn't because I don't know how but I tried to do a "refresh" Install of Windows hoping that would fix it.

How could I reinstall those distributables?

Have you checked the directory in the error to see if said file is present?

"File access error" sounds like the KG can't even write the file to that directory, either because of folder permission issues (which can be caused by Defender's protected folder access feature or however it's called), or because the file is already present and is being accessed ny another program (you can terminate by using Resource Monitor and looking it up under the CPU tab). That file is what activates Maschine 2.

If you want to reinstall the redistributables manually, you can actually extract the contents of the Maschine 2 setup .exe ((if it doesn't already come unpacked), and look somewhere under the filebag folders; you'll find vcredist_x86 and vcredist_x64.

For the permissions issue you may want to go to the Users folder, right click on the Public folder, and check its properties.

    @kh_minusone

and this is the error I get when trying to open Maschine standalone:

    upload_2021-5-10_1-14-33.png

    Event Viewer then tells me:

Faulting application name: Maschine 2.exe, version: 2.12.0.871, time stamp: 0x5f72fb7a
Faulting module name: ucrtbase.dll, version: 10.0.19041.789, time stamp: 0x2bd748bf

    Faulting process ID: 0x1e10
    Faulting application start time: 0x01d74528d5d2a993

    Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\ucrtbase.dll
    Report ID: 1ede48f2-3820-4ee4-9ddc-ccca02bea34b
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:

Now the question is how to tackle this ?

    Thanks for your help !

Some good news but not there yet!...

So changing the attributes of the Users/Public (it was indeed set for Read-only) fixed the KG issue and it now runs flawlessly without any errors.
    BUT Maschine2.exe still crashes...

Downloaded and installed vcredist_x86 and vcredist_x64 from MS website to get the latest ones available but that didn't solve it either.
