I've been trying to find the EXACT Tibales used in the audio example below from the 1993 song Come Baby Come by K7. The exact match part is important.

I am sure that I have heard these exact timbales on lots of different tracks at the time (early 90's) as they have a distinctive sound.

    https://soundcloud.com/roger-henders/ti ... zTMFu1NbWE

Sorry that the Soundcloud widget does not work - no idea why but I have now just put the url to my example clip.

    So far I have tried:
    Kontakt Factory Library
    Native Instruments - Cuba
    Korg M1 Percussion
    BFD Percussion Pack
Tunetrack Superior Drummer w. Latin Cuban Percussion & Latin Cuban Drums
6 or 7 Different sample packs
I am not aware of in other kontakt or drum VSTi that has timbales

None of the Timbale's in the above come close both in pitch, tone or overall sound and if I pitch the up or down they sound terrible.

I do wonder if the Timbales are from a keyboard as the real samples used in the drum VSTs have tons of ringing which is hard to eq out and destroys the resulting sound.

So I am hoping that someone may reconise them and be able to place them?

the track you are trying to chase a sample from was released in 1993, so you can rule out any VST plugin as the original source. It was more likely recorded in 1992. There are really very few drum machines which were widely available at the time. think Alesis SR-16, HR-16 era. sp-12/1200, Drumulator, Roland 606, etc.

I am not sure this list is 100% complete, but it is a chronological list of 80's/90's drum machines:

    Hey Clone

Thanks for your reply, I will go through that oldschooldaw list, it may help.

I tried the modern VST's because if I hadnt someone would say that I should.

I have heard those exact timbales on a lot of songs from that time period, a lot were house tracks but buggered if I can remember which ones.

Any way, going to check that list now.

Steinberg developed VST in 1996 so that would waste your time. I'm sure you can find something close in a modern vst, but when you are looking for an original sound, it's just best to look for the actual source. I'm kinda OCD about (mostly) breakbeats from old funk/soul/rare groove and it drives me crazy when I can't figure one out. Like the feeling where "it's on the tip of your tongue"...

I don't think it is from a keyboard/synth. It's possible, but using the old Midi Channel 10 and a drum kit from a synth was somewhat cumbersome for just one sound. If a drum machine had been available in the studio, the odds would be about 100 to 1 they just used whatever available drum machine they had.

The Souncloud link you posted is invalid. Yes, the advice about trying out different drum machine samples from the era is a good one. There are free samples of almost any drum machine you can imagine available on the net. I will take a blind shot and say check out the Roland TR-727. It's the Latin percussion focussed version of the TR-707.

hey... its hard, if you could please chop a small part for us to listen..?

ok I do believe with 85% of accuracy it is a TR-505 processed via MPC or SP-1000 for the crunch or the "HI" timbale from the TR-707
those 2 are almost identical, but the exact... man it will be hard due to the processing
    hope it helps.

    Thanks for the replys everyone.

Cant seem to get even close as the 727 samples have a ring that eq cant remove (and I have spent a whole day trying).

Very Close match on the Edirol HyperCanvas:
    https://vocaroo.com/1jIrG6cOSxvk

F4 note on any of the Drum Set patches..

Other VST synths of that era could have close matches,
maybe something like Korg Triton or Roland Sound Canvas type of stuff..

i found recently a lot of cool drums in the KORG M1 em VST by KORG itself, maybe OP look there?
Also there is a huge pack of ROMS with 200+ M1 roms, might check them out from there?
Otherwise yeah might checkout Drum samples archives?

There's also the very real possibility that it was sampled--even if it was a drum machine that was used in another Hip Hop track--then, sampled from that. As much as Hip Hop Heads will claim the purity of Classic and Old School Hip Hop, people were still bitin off each other, just to a far lesser degree. My advice would be to find a library with the same dry timbre (unsure what Soundiron has in this specific field, but they tend to have top-notch dry samples in their libraries,) and then do some broad EQing with gentle slopes/Q and then run it through a sampler emulation, like Mathieu Demange's RX950, or an SP-1200 or MPC IR. Also, don't be afraid to EQ, bit-crunch it, bounce it down, and the resample it all over again. The main thing to remember is that despite having a lot of later Hip Hop albums produced in real studios, the initial audio sources were still often mediocre quality and then processed with older gear.
    Just my two-cents... :chilling:

heyyy i was able to listen to it. with some pitch you can have it, these are pretty famous from my collection, unedited straight from the machines, not processed and for the ringing thing, after you pitch it, find the fundamentals and with lot of love cut them a bit, use the notch filter in the eq as a decay, we do that a lot here in the island.. after you managed to control the resonances.... saturation as hell ha ha ha it will bring back the resonances and the decay in a really musical way.
maybe soothe do the trick but we are old school :guru:

Just checked some timbale samples from various Roland drum machines.
To me it sounds like the 'Hi Timbale' from Roland TR-626 drum machine.
