I'll never know, but maybe the judge was right, sometimes I feel the same killer instinct even when I hear famous singers.

Maybe the violet hairpiece was inspired by UFO series, noticing the video space theme:

When i was young, i doesnt like, not to say hate, all these government-conform and censored GDR Stuff. Today i think, some songs are really great, like the one you posted.

    Karat - Jede Stunde (1982)

Surprisingly fresh for GDR conditons i found this one from Arnulf Wenning. Reminds me of Tacos "Puttin On The Ritz" or Two Of Us - "Blue Night Shadow"

Arnulf Wenning - Eisdame (1986) (nifty trousers;)

Not to forget the one and only real GDR Dance-Combo, coming up at the end of the socialists 1989, The Electric Beat Crew.

Electric Beat Crew - Go Go (1989)

Electric Beat Crew - Here We Come (1989)

Let’s end page 28! with the track this topic could have started with. Back then, Bar-Kays was a new name to me. Later on I learned they were already making music back in the sixties! Listen to their 1984 RnB dance hit (Audio-) Sexomatic!

Kraftwerk, the pioneers of techno already have a great track in this thread, but also count me in for this one:

Old school rapper Kurtis Blow was mentioned before, His raps can also be heard in this great track by Rene & Angela. Both artists have also written & produced tracks for Stephanie Mills, Janet & Michael Jackson. For now: Save your love:

Wally Badarou. People will recognize his fine groovy track from 1984, Chief inspector. But this French-African Keyboard player is one of the great known unknowns. His work can be heard on numerous tracks and probably a dozen top-10 hits.

HipHop..I really should mention the Digital Underground. Because they made great positive tracks, and because it’s founder, Shock G passed away last week. Some might say RIP, I wanna say: thanks for your great music man!
Go check out their 1990 record ‘Humpy Dance’ -with it’s great pumping base- and this one, because in the eighties, you could eat wutchalike, smell how you like, talk how ya like, Doowutchalike!

Unique - What I got is what you need.
This great 1983 track was mixed by David Todd & Nick Martinelli who are known for loads of hits by:
Five star, Tavares, George Benson, Nona Hendryx, Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, Icehouse, and many, many others.

Lisa - Rocket to your heart! Why was by Carly Simon, but why did we get to page 28 for this track? I don’t know..
This uptempo Hi-Energy track was a guaranteed floor-filler. So check out this great remix of Rocket to your heart, and, wel.. play it loud!

I don't usually count hiphop as eighties dance music, but this one was huge on the early house scene:
Eric B and Rakim (Coldcut remix)

Then there was the whole hip house scene as well.
Tyree Cooper, Turn up the Bass

    Mr Lee, Get Busy

    Jungle Brothers, I'll House You
