Hey Guys!

So, I made this project and I tried to implement 21 Pilots approach in which their choruses are always the loudest and drums just bang in choruses.

However, the end result definitely didn't satisfied me. I tried more and more stuff. Then watched Heathens Mix breakdown, in which I got to know about Parallel compression. I implemented it and still the chorus just didn't seem fine to me.

What do you guys think of overall mix? I've attached the project, valuable inputs will be appreciated

Also, like can anyone tell me the rough template of mixing and mastering so that I can play around them in my various projects.

I just seem to be doing random things, like putting in tape saturation after compression etc. So please help me out in this scenario. The rough template.

Also, recently I've been getting irked to highs of claps/snares and trombone. Is my ears degrading or my ears have progressed that the highs need refinement? This is worrying for me cuz it's been like 2 months since I started production. I use Sennheiser earphones for every thing.

Mixing aside, Mastering has it's perks too...

there's too mush to say and not enough time to say it, basically you need to sort through the randomness and start making a plan for your mix,

let's say focus on drums, then bass then how to make both work with each other, now you have your foundation after that you focus on putting the rest of your elemnts on top, like a pyramid a lego pyramid, after that you start working on special fx, and 3d and separation, so each element have room to breath and thrive in your mix, while i had to make them look like a seperate steps, i do all the previous things somewhat in parallel and as i move on in the mix...

Think of the philosophy and approach you're taking, "implementing" random techniques in hopes of acheinging something wont get you far, i'd be lying if i said i know what i'm doing most of the time, but it's more like of navigating and follwing the waves, the song and it's needs will guide you but the final word it's yours... apologies for the complexity of what i'm saying but's it's only natural that you can't make head or tails of this, just give it time...

Being the master and mix engineer gives me a certain power over the final product...

Also, you mastered my song, thank you! But the file I provided was already mastered and in your file, the already processed highs became more processed and dang, it was too harsh. Also, the song became too loud maybe?

It sounds like you're at a stage where you're learning lots of new techniques, but are then unsure of how and when to apply them.

That's okay.

After you have a solid grasp of all the various techniques that mix engineers use (and this may take years), then you will be able to approach a track and ask yourself - what does this need?

 

short answer:

there is no such rule that the use of parallel compression methods would make the chorus sound better.

you seem to have talent, use your talent to find out what works, not youtube videos.
