Hello guys. I'm not having any trouble adding Libraries in Kontakt 5. I use the NICNT trick on the mac and DoubleY KLM on Win. But I am having trouble with the Library folder structure. If, for example, I'm importing Kontakt stuff from a multiformat download OR I am trying to amalgamate smaller Kontakt libraries in a containing library ( such as ethnic, banjos or small percussion for example), so as not to clutter the Library browser, then I often find that the standard folder structure of "Instruments" and "Samples" inside the library folder does not work and gives me the missing samples dialog. The only way I can be sure to have the instrument load is to place the sample files themselves inside the same folder as the .nki.
How do you do it guys???

You don't have to rearrange the folders. Just do a batch resave of the library.

Exactly. Go to Kontakt's menubar. Files > Batch re-save. Ignore the warning. Choose the root folder of your desired library. If Kontakt is looking for the samples,
choose same root folder again. Instruments/Samples/Multis or whatever subfolders there are - and of course you can rearrange them before, if you want - Kontakt scans them automatically and stores the new location on your .nki patches. Done.

Thanks guys that is a big step in the right direction. It seems as if Kontakt is not scanning the subfolders when I select the root Library folder but I have to point it at where the Samples are. Nevertheless big progress. Alruan could you advise me on the best way of organizing the contents of a custom Kontakt library folder containing smaller libraries which would be too numerous to clutter up the Library browser??

It doesn't depend on the amount of folders. Don't worry. Kontakt is a scanning/browsing beast.
O.K., the more GB/TB are hanging on it, the more time Kontakt needs to build up it's database.
But you don't do that every day anyway.

The library browser itself can handle it. The largest library (Vienna Symphonic) within my Kontakt folder has 235GB.
The delay when opening VSL library tab is just slightly longer than the others.
Even when i browse through the widely ramified folder tree of that lib, i don't notice any weakening. It works pretty well. *yes*

    :dunno: For me it works.

What is the ideal location, if any, for the library content in Windows 7? Is it necessary to store all libraries in the same directory?

You can place the libraries where you want. You don't have to put them in a single folder.
But to keep it a bit clear, organize them by brand or type. That's the way i do it.

Libraries can be anywhere you want. Each one is treated individually anyway.

also it's faster to give Kontakt a hint with the missing samples dialog by choosing resolve manually>browse for folder and pointing to the parent folder that contains the samples. you could also enable 'keep search mode...' if you know you moved samples. just point to the highest parent folder that contains all your instruments and samples. for any other broken instrument, the dialog will only pop up if kontakt can't find samples in the location you specified.

i recommend using the library and quickload over the library tab. i mean its pretty and all, but it's useless unless you know exactly what you're looking for.

pro tip: when searching in the database, you can give kontakt a hint by dragging a folder from your desktop and dragging it into the results list. this is a temporary addition to the database that is removed the next time the db is re-scanned.
