Using AI to create new songs by Jimi, Nirvana, Amy has caught my attention. If this the future, I'm excited and scared. Hearing in unbelieving

A.I is moving fast, I was glad to read that a human composed the works using the A.I's "hooks, rhythms, melodies, and lyrics." If the A.I had simply presented the programmers with the finished product I 'd be a bit freaked out, like I 'd missed A LOT of news... Still pretty amazing though. :woot:

good to see the conversation on mental health is moving on too, thanks to good people like this, the more it's seen just like any other ailment or illness, the better. :like:

    thanks for the link :shalom:

A.I. i only as good as, and create with, the data sets it draws from.
I would imagine that every time you upload music to any hosting , or automated mastering platforms or whatever, then you are supplying it with data.

Mainstream music has been dumbed down to the point that A.I. can surely compete. Same with all these glitch vocal fx. Surely all the glitchiness just makes it easier for A.I. to compete vocally?

Will it ever compete with the best of human talent in creativity? No? But it will just be a step behind, assimilating everything new.

I'd love to think it would wipe out the tens of millions of bedroom no-hopers who have destroyrd music as we know it, but reckon it will just become another toy that people with no creativity can use to pretend they have creativity?

Great music, lyrics etc touches the human soul. It is imperfect like humans. It is not quantised!

Thanks for the link though, although none of the vocalists sound like the real thing! ;)

I agree, but you have to admit this has come a long way since the days of the singing Stephen Hawking synthesised voice.

Give in another 5-10 years and someone will sue an AI

There is plenty of AI music from Jukebox AI on Youtube, this compilation is based on the same AI but with human intervention to select the best part and replay it.
Still, the100% AI is pretty impressive, a bit of chaotic and random sometime, but it's just the begining. We're in the new era, as revolutionary as the invention of recording was (sort of), and for now we're like in the equivalent of 1890 in the timeline. Sound quality of those AI generated music kind of sounds like old 78rpm records :)

Future music will surely be made with AI, the only question is at how many % will the human intervention still be there. Maybe future kids will like that chaotic randomness because it's different from their parent music, just like our generation (I'm from the 80s) with the electronic stuff and sampling based music that our parent didn't understand, and just like the previous generation with the apparition of amped guitar and distortion, or with microphone and more "quiet" singer for the generation before that.

Future will arrive with or without us, maybe it's time to learn how all this work if we want to stay relevant :)

that's a great point! Can you sue an AI? AI poses all sorts of problems, not just in music. Take pension funds for example. They are pyramid schemes. When you pay into your pension fund, you are actually paying to people who are already retired. If AI replaces more and more jobs, who will be paying into pension funds when it's your turn to get a pension? With regards to music, it is possibly one of the most powerful forces available to evoke feeling and emotion. Can machine really, truly know what it is to be human? Or is it simply creating infinite variations based on a data set based on rules?

It's all very complex, and a bit of a headfuck :)

I am sure it will happen, given time. God was sued successfully, so I am sure a good Lawyer could sue an artifical intelligent procedure

Someone managed to sue God? Do you happen to have that lawyers number? Would be handy lol

These are strange times. No disrespect to transgender or people who identify as whatever, but I'm more than certain that this blurring of gender that is currently in vogue amongst politicians and the powers that be is not about helping these people in any meaningful way, and more about preparing us for AI, which is genderless?

Yes, but the only person who stood up in court was a representative.

    lol.

Getting back to music though, does the world really need any more clones? which is essentially what this technology is attempting. We are already swamped with tribute acts and people copying, borrowing, stealing and re-writing existing material.

Isn't that how music evolves? It's been happening ever since someone thought it would be a good idea to hit a few rocks with a stick, and stretch out some twine to make different sounds. We've been copying music and ideas from day one.

It is rare that an entirely new (and good) musical genre rears its head. All we can hope for is some good new material, but even inside that you always hear someone else's take on something they have already heard.

Absolute garbage. Feed a computer Nirvana midi files and out squirts Puddle of Mudd. I'm sure some NFT-style cretin will be along soon to monetise this somehow.

What has natural intelligence done for music that its artificial type can do?

A.I. is sth like dildo but its target is ears.

Having been involved with that myself I would wonder why...
Now that's the sort of comment that gets threads shut down!
But I'd say it's also for population control...No procreation.
