MacBook Pro late 2013, i7, 16gb ram, 500GB SSD internal (Catalina) and external Majovie
Can I use parallels Desktop to run a K of Pro tools on a virtual PC or should I install windows 10 on bootcamp partition?

Any advise appreciated

i don't know how much you will lose (in terms of performance), but both of those options (parallels and bootcamp) should work... because the latest cracked protools only work until el capitan (sort of... not really good)

 

Bootcamp is just a dual boot.
No performance impact.

If you only need to open projects to export them, Parallels
If you really mix on PT, Bootcamp by far

 

Ok the reason I chose the idea of virtual PC or Bootcamp is because I hear PT12 is around, have you guys tested this ?

Go for the Bootcamp way and install pro tools 12.5 from AudioUTOPiA.
the release has been out since 2016, tested, and works.

I mean you have pretty good specs, i don't think that you will notice anything there is a pt 10 release you can give it a try and see the results. I have been testing pt 12.5 for a while and no issues with the release.

Have you considered Avid's free offering, 16tracks, 4ins at a time. It might be enough got what you want to do without any jumping through hoops.

Unless you are tied into the ecosystem and infrastructure what do you gain from PT? Not poo-pooing your choice, I am actually curious.

who said anything abbot forced share, no matter what you do to work with PT free, the bs crippled demo, you have to be online, you have to have an account with a cloud unto 1GB provided free upon creating an account.

Avid-digidesign's strategy is motivated by greed and locking out independent freelance users unless they are willing to share a cut of their hard earn money Unlike most of their clients who are not people but corps -Big post studios who use multi Studio rigs by AVID in post and right it all off on their tax return, free in fact...and all this keeps the product from been affordable and out of reach of the hungry young competition.

BTW Digidesign did not just rip off the codes from Macromedia's Deck Pro Deck II Pro Deck sound designer then Pro Tools but they screwed over the author using a Claus which then allows the feds to get him locked up in a Psy ward including have CPS take his children away, just to assure he never went public, one of the reasons Steve Jobs left Apple and that world at the time..before realising he had the power to make Apple better.

So digi and Avid are professional liars with access to the top marketing people in the country.., last I heard they re invented Pro Tools calling it Carbon...used some punk wanna be musician to present it and they act like its new.

Pro tools free AVID link are nothing but malware, it was probably the digi hardware guys who make PT10 cracks public since they where screwed as well., and BTW digi spreads cracks more then anyone else.

Yhea, the start on cloud thing is kind of a pain in the ass if you are not always online and there is no way around it. You can be offline after your first save but you can not create local project offline unless you pay for a license. I am not a fan of PT without infrastructure anyways, once you take away the accelerators and DSP it's an average DAW at best, but people want what they want.

There is a guy that pops up now and then that sells perpetual licenses for something like $150-200. That should be pretty to cover unless you are working for negative money. BTW that old shtick about needing pro-tools if you are hungry and coming up is old BS.

I am not sure why you need your DAW to be PT, comparability probably, but if that's what you want and the only thing you can swing is a five finger discount, you are probably better off running in bootcamp or getting more memory if you plan to run through Parallels.

Good luck. Every-once in a while we all run into a brick wall. It is part of life see your way through it and keep on chugging-along.

 

Find me a more accurate audio editing DAW, I worked with Pro Tools since Pro Deck, I worked with Logic since v2.1 and I had preferred Opcde studio vision pro at the time, no audio editing app can do better then pro tools, the resolution for critical editing and fader range is superior even to physical professional fader strips...and when you need a daw for sound design, critical fixing of vocals nothing beats it.

Its true they screwed over the developer of Macromedia DECK.,Later Pro Deck, Pro Tools.
This story is gross and well known within the Silicon Valley community, one Steve JOBS spoke to about it back at the time,

Digidesign basically made a deal to put him onboard as a programer then suddenly cut him keeping his codes, the developer then tried suing Digidesign for breach of contract but faced been raided by the feds while CPS dragged his children away with no warrants, Digi tried digging up anything they can find to win the case so to take this guy to the cleaners until he had no more money to defend himself, but all this does not have anything to do with Pro Tools been a good editing DAW.

we know the midi six a55, its over priced, Avid is only catering to the networks (post production film suites), these companies get pro tools and avid gear for free as they make. millions annually and right off the gear on their tax returns, yet Avid wants end users to dish out half their income if they want pro tools, literally speaking, and the mid sized private post production studios also like this because they dont WANT everyone to afford the gear and be competitors, especially in the advertising networks.

Anyway...thats all I know about Digidesign and Avid besides them screwing software and hardware developers..crooks

I PM you, but unless your in the Silicon Valley circles and meet people from the 90s there you will only be able to obtain the info on any sealed case by a judge through a IP attorney upon request from the local FBI via the "freedom of information act".

All I can say here for viewers is that Digidesign had placed confidentiality agreement terms in which they cut people at any time during the first 6 months, these agreements allowed them to legally protect themselves from been sued for infringement crimes or and breach of contracts with longer terms, means they can continue using the IP as long as they keep the author out of reach., Also been that a Gov agency was in contract with them to replace their famous NAGRA machines no one cut un lawfully had a chance.

You can find all kinds of horror stories by employees of Digi or AVID, any sucker doing so that thinks they are in good hands will eventually find that once they are out their lives will also be ruined.

But dont download a copy of PT 12 because of this... unless you want to "F#ck!" Avid in the %ss like 90 million people around the globe do lol!!

so which version of win 10 should I get for bootcamp?
I read win10 Pro is better, but its not free!
