"Since we've been active for over 20 years and still haven't learned how to code sizable plugin windows, we teamed up with iZotope so they can bestow upon us the leet skillz required to finally make our GUIs a little less ugly as fuck. As a sign of your appreciation of our efforts, you'll sign up for subscription for just 49.99$, so that, when the time comes and you see an error message that pops up when you try to open a project after you unsubscribed from us, the message will be large and easily readable for you. We hope that we can inspire innovation and bla bla bla"

Great. Two horrible companies merge into one.

Last good thing from NI is Massive X (which wasn't developed in-house, so no wonder it's that good, same as with some of the better kontakt libraries they got). And last good thing from Izotope was... wait, they don't have anything that is good. So that's that then. I'll expect to never see anything worthwhile by these guys.

This is a really good point I found someone made at Gearslutz about subscriptions

    " BMANIC

    Lives for gear

    15 years

The audio plugin and DAW world is very quickly going in the direction I predicted a few years ago when subscriptions started appearing. Everybody kept saying what a great deal subscriptions are and how good value they are, but the OPPOSITE is true.

If everybody goes subscription, the ability to own a lot of different company products disappears. What if you in the future want a few plugins from iZotope, Slate, Waves, Plugin Alliance, Softube and a few different DAWs??? You suddenly end up paying hundreds of dollars per month!!. This is far more costly than buying exactly the plugins and DAWs you actually need a few times per year. Even if you spend 1000$ in a year on software, those hundreds per month will quickly outclass that spending.

There's also a sort of addictive element to all of this.. being tied to a subscription and being exposed to "new" updates constantly.

Luckily none of this is forced upon us. We of course have the power by voting with our wallets.

.. and yes, iZotope have been a greedy shady company for many years now. The last product I purchased from them was RX 6 Advanced and wowed then to never give them a dime again. So far I've held true to that promise and doesn't seem like anything has changed with the company to warrant a re-examination of that promise."

And some plugin companies are requiring your computer to stay online to constantly update your authorization status

Forcing you to risk online hazards

its CRAZY - we should all start a new music Fad

its 'cool' to make music with old programs

the earlier the versions the cooler the song

I don't know exactly who, I just know it wasn't in-house. From what I know, it was someone who wanted to originally create a successor to Massive (which explains why it is conceptually somewhat different - such as lack of rather rigid topology). And at some point, Native Instruments acquired it.

If I were to guess, Native Instruments probably provided UIX developers because the UIX is rather nice and they are fairly good at doing that as of late with their various Reaktor stuff. But of course, Native Instruments underestimated the development time severely and the product was pushed out before it even had a proper manual because it was already delayed once. This resulted into a lot of rather harsh and unwarranted critique with 100% clueless people reviewing the product and, for instance, thinking that the exciter envelope was for introducing a click, while glossing over the fabulous comb filter.

But the good news is, I know like 5 different people now who I should never, ever watch for any kind of synth reviews. Massive X is kind of like a litmus test: give it to a person for a review and in 30 minutes you can figure out if that person actually knows anything about how synths work or how to test their various features.

and most dont get it is just like drugz.
Those company dont want most the old users here they are on to the new generations which will dont even know how to be independent or secure and hassle free offline with legacy plugins which outperform new shit .
That's why they abandon stuff and buy company's to let them dry out after .
Wait how the marked look just in five years , it is all connected .

    NI + Izotope .. interesting
    Depends on what they do.
My guess: some Izotope´s plugs will be added to stuff you already know.
    I could be wrong....who knows?!?

I see a bleak future where all Audio Software companies merge, create one plug-in, with one knob and generates all your music w/o the use of human interaction. At some point they will break up the gov't because it's gotten too big. coding your own plug-ins will be a hate crime, and water will be replaced with Brando.
