    Hi!
I got all the impulses that ableton comes with and the ones from m4l convolutionn reverb pro. I like the sound of Lexicon and wanted to ask if someone got IR's for them or just other cool IR's. Of course i googled but got no nice results and also found nothing on sister site.

You are saying Google query did not come up with any results? Here are a few I found:

    &

One thing though: impulse responses are NOT perfect to recreate the Lexicon sound, since Lexicon has lots of modulation going on in the tail, which an impulse response does NOT capture / recreate.

I would rather go with an algorithmic reverb for that (most well-coded modern day algorithmic plugins are far superior to 1980s Lexicon tech, but don't tell anyone, you might hurt the feelings of someone who invested thousands of dollars into old hardware).

Exponential Audio's / Izotope's Phoenix Verb (clean algo reverb) - got it for 10 bucks when it was on sale. If you are into Lexicon style verbs, get the R2 or R4 plugin whenver it's on sale! Can often be bought for 20 bucks!

Would use impulse responses mainly to recreate real spaces: rooms, halls, chambers, openair venues... They are literally perfect for this, you will get a great and very natural sounding impression of space. Then on a parallel FX bus you could add some algo reverb with modulation and blend the signal into both reverb busses to get a great overall reverb sound.

These collections are a great start:

Thanks for your answer! I fount the ones in the Link but compared to Lexicon PCM they sounded not how i wanted them to sound. Maybe this is beacuse of the Modulation you talked about. But i would love to got more IR's if someone got somthing to share

I edited my initial comment and added two additional collections, which contain real spaces. Check the end of that first comment.

wow good find @ArticStorm, i hope they work nice in hybrid reverb. i got some the other day and they were L and R but i think hybrid needs a stereo file. Please sort out all crappy IRs from your pack

Even the Xtreme Samples IRs won't have the crucial modulation aspect baked in. I know the idea of having the exact sound of renown hardware reverbs available through IRs sounds fascinating, but capturing early digital gear that has nonlinear modulation going on is really not the strength of convolution. Convolution's strength is in capturing real spatial acoustics.

IMHO you are much better off using something like the Exponential R2 / R4 or any good modern algo. Much more flexible and you can still dial in the bit and sample rate reduced 80s reverb sound if you need to.

The hardware Lexicons were algos too, but based on outdated and primitive (from modern perspective) algorithms. So nothing to gain there.

Some of the newer algo reverbs (plugins) are actually developed by former Lexicon guys, so it's basically the evolved version of the old Lexicon hardware. I think that's even true for the Exponential Audio stuff now distrinuted by Izotope.

@Hazen its now more a kind of collecting thing. I think you are right about the modulation. And i wonder something: Does a algo reverb also react to the tone pitch of the incoming signal and the convolution always applies the same tail?

There might be algos that do this, but I don't think it's a common feature. Some algos let you sculpt the Early Reflections part of the reverb (like the important, early transient of the reverb, opposed to the tail part) and how it responds to the signal, but I don't think it analyzes the pitch of the signal.

You could try using Lexicon IRs on a FX bus and then add some modulation effects like chorus on the next slot, then send the signal into this FX buss. Experiment with this approach, can create interesting reverbs.

If possible in your DAW, you could also send the output of the convolution FX buss into another FX buss with a modulation effect present. Or use a convolution reverb, but shorten the IR so that only the initial Early Reflection will be left and then follow this up with an algo with only the tail. Such combinations can create very interesting reverbs.

well L+R you can convert with something like Audacity into one file? Im not sure about that?

I will see what i can find, when go through all IR stuff i can find.
