Hopefully we will have more control now on target freqs that will lead to cleaner saturation (see what i did there).

If you dont have a good listening environment then these type of plugins can do more harm than good, since we tend to overdo it.

 

True. However, this applies to any kind of processing.

 

True but more so with saturation plugins.

 

This is not a question of the listening envoronment but rather of taste, experience, skill and artistic vision… so actually all the things you can't compensate with buying new plugins.

 

Well, yes. The attributes you listed also play a not unimportant role. But maybe, so this thread doesn't slide into offtopic, we can just agree that each of these attributes can compensate for a lack of other attributes up to a certain point. While experience and listening skills can partially compensate for suboptimal room acoustics, the reverse is also true.

 

ok so .... if you have the old version ... is this really worth getting ? the multiband splitting is very interesting but you could do it easily in any daw... why would u need to get the upgrade ?

I'll stick to using my hardware HG-2, these plugin HG-2 emulations can't get close to what all those tubes and transformers do when driven... but to each their own.

the old Black Box Analog design, whenever the drums is thin and lack of energy, I'll go straight to the preset no 30. "Master Additional Balls".

don't know if I need this new one, but looks good though.
