Dude, I can sympathize to some extent. I practically lived on nothing but macaroni and ketchup for a couple of years when I started my long and winding road into the world of music.
But c'mon, don't you have some stuff you can sell, or some family or friends to borrow from?
Can't you get some crappy job for a couple months, which could get you both some cash + credit.

Also be prepared to get some suggestions about becoming a midnight cowboy if HK finds this thread…

The only really lame part is the CAPSLOCK topic...

What's our benefit if we fund you?
What about a Mac Mini ? What about a used MBP or iMac ?

Apple offers pretty cool plans (100$/month over a year or two, little rate, i think)
Your school start in Jan... You seem american... these schools cost like 10k$/year... How do you pay for the school?
Your school might have a few computer you can use, in the mean time.

Can't you make a few hundred dollars in 3 month? Go flip some burger and roll some burritos? We've all been there.
Much more honorable than begging over the internets. We all have stuff we need to buy (I need a 8x10 loudspeaker, a new fridge and I don't think my MBP will survive this 3rd E.U. tour), do you see asking for money here with a broken english? (hint: no)

WELCOME TO THE REAAAAAAAL WOOOOOOORLD MY FRIEND!!!

If you have no skillz to pay the billz, just work at McDonalds or something, it can feed you and you get ok cash.

Don't whine on forums, it's not going to help, plus most of us here are as poor as you are...we basically have nothing going on for us except a crappy job and
making music...that is what you need as well until you're skillful enough to do something that has a good salary, till then you're just going to be packing salads, and be thankful for that as well, some people don't even get to eat...

thisis theend, you don't need to become a midnight cowboy to get by, you can just make melodious music with a typical resolving chord cadence, ya know, the stuff that you and the rest of the world likes... *yes*

Make sure you have dem FX in there as well, like big verb crashes that go BOOOOOOM and shit...and don't forget your filter sweeps and blowjob basslines

    @ Robbie,

That's really a Great Wish... *yes*

As you don't clearly stipulate which School you're planning to attend, by 'School', I mean its name (?), below you have a little suggestion...

For your info, in case that you plan to make your studies within the 'SAE Institute' ('School of Audio Engineering'), you must to know that depending the location of the chosen Institute (as it exists several Worldwide), you can get an 'Apple' Laptop (by cons, I don't know exactly which Model !) which is comprised in the price of the Course/Diploma Cursus. *yes*

Simply inform you exactly of which 'SAE Institute' locations can give you that opportunity.
By experience, I know that the major centers of 'SAE Institute' maintain that offer since long time now (e.g. in Australia : the 'SAE Institute' of 'Melbourne', 'Sydney', 'Perth'). This is the case for other Countries as well... *yes*

Here you can find some info about these 'SAE Institute' :

    'SAE Institute'

(Despite it's the Main Page for Australia, in the upper left corner of the page, you can find a 'scrolling' Menu with all the Countries where there are representations of the Institute).

Good Luck to you !

I was actually pretty much in the same position...I needed money to buy a computer for university...so I took a crappy office job for a while in the summer, managed to save up enough money to get an e-machine with 6GB or ram and 1 core processor and that was good for my first year...

In life, you have to dodge it a little and find a workaround to everything without being a cheat or a scammer, and that's how you get by, get around, get over and on top...you'll learn...

    Good Luck

Since nobody asked... Why must it be an iMac exactly? You could get a perfectly reasonable PC computer for the price of two to three cinema tickets. What do you think how I started? Well, I actually started with an Atari... :bleh: but it wasn't easy in the beginning, and it isn't any easier now.

Hey HK, melody doesn't have to mean middle of the road, man. Even The Doors, Sex Pistols and NWA had melodies and hooks.
It's just like any other element of music, you can use it in a 1000 different ways :guitarhero: :keys:
But I'm still pretty sure most guys who need to grab some fast cash from nowhere would have a better chance as midnight cowboys than making any kind of music. That biz is cold..

Making music isn't profitable, but mixing and mastering is. If you have some knowledge and good ears you can always make a quid here and there that way. Or flip burgers. Or riding the "midnight train".

One can laugh all they want, but for many people the last one is a very cruel reality. This society is hell. :( :dunno:

yeah man it's important to make it clear exactly who you are and your intentions. I honestly completely forgot you had a wife and kids and were also making music for games. I srsly thought you were a 17 year old kid lawl...

in that case I am in no position to give you advice cuz I don't have a wife nor kids...

    my apologies

No worries HK. It's still pretty ballsy of me to ask a forum of broke musicians for spare change. But I am very desperate I've been putting off school due to money for 3 years. I really just want to start.

Yeah man, I forgot about that film/game thread too, my bad.
Went with the reptile instinct. I think it's cause like PMS said, we've all been there, and we all had to sacrifice stuff and struggle as best we could at some time.
But how come you can't get some kinda credit if you work full time?
I'm asking cause pretty much anybody can do that over here.

Medical bills. I had a few hospital trips last year and I had no insurance. at the time I worked 32 hours and not 40 the company I worked for didn't offer it. so my bill went beyond 10k and went off to collections after a month of not being able to pay them. So as it is my credit score is 606 and dropping fast.
