Rumor has it that Bx is set to release a "mastering DAW." I have not been able to find any info about it other than a statement made by Dirk Ulrich. With Bx expertise, and plugins line up, this mastering DAW could be something special. If anyone has any information or thoughts about it, feel free to post them.

(note: this is just me handwaving here)

If it's just for mastering, I'd think it would not differ from a 2 track/5.1/7.1 audio editor really that much, except with a specialized plugs and tools (which you can of course get for other DAWs). And if it moves towards more multitrack-editing then it would be a mixing DAW as well, wouldn't it?

Regardless, it's good news if true, I think there is a specialized niche for this kind of thing.

It's been a few days since Dirk Ulrich announced the new toy from Brainworx.
The Beta Testers have been playing with it for a while, it shouldn't be released soon.
    I haven't heard of a DAW :dunno:

probably a DAW with Mid/Side channel instead of L/R like they used to add to EVERYTHING they made/emulate

    That thing looks... interesting.

One thing that twists my brain is the solo section, mainly "SIP". Maybe my assumption that it means "Solo in Place" like it normally does is off, but how on earth that means anything in a single limiter context? I'm very confused :dunno:

How about metadata and plugin automation? A Wavelab killer.

My thoughts exactly. It'd makes sense to start with a Mastering Wave Editor instead of a full fledged DAW because the latter is more complex.
Anyways, if is good stuff always welcomed.
    And perhaps Audition too.

    More likely "Stereo Independant Processing"

That would make more sense, true. But even then how is that a monitoring feature?

I'll just shake this off my brain for now since I'm obviously missing something. Maybe give it a go when it comes out and figure it out.

in order to succeed they must build something like acustica audio modula, with plugin alliance plugins, with custom preamps on every channel, with tmt tech... also third party stuff support is a must... and if I think better so can Presonus with the new version in the future, expand its project page into evolved mastering daw

a kind of complete daw makes sense considering that they have some virtual instruments (regardless of the quality of these) and with that they would enter to kinda compete against uad and their luna.... and as a mastering especialized one, something like the mastering page of studio one pro 5 makes a lot of sense

Maybe something like that.. Because, there are mid, side, left, right and there is no just Stereo button .... But maybe between L and R there is probably Stereo I. P. button....

I don't think Urik will go multi on it. He is reluctant to even entertain the idea of stem mastering, and when I say reluctant it is un understatement. For those wondering what stem mastering is all about, here is some info on it:

I never liked the original bx_limiter. Luckily, Limiters have become less significant in recent years since music is becomming more dynamic again due to dynamic range normalization algorithms on streaming platforms.

i once made my own "mastering daw" and it does exactly that; it is a 16 channel player and mixer with plug-ins and has a mid/side option, frequency splitters and dynamic splitters directly built-in in the channel strip, one per aux and insert.

because back in the days there werent much plug-ins which would offer that on their own, and this way you could apply a powercore reverb only on the side signal of the peaks of the higher frequencies - and then export 32 and 16 bit together with one click.

of course plug-in parameter automation and dithering are better in an industry product, so it was yet another half baked idea which i didnt even use myself.

This SIP button seems to work in conjuction with the left and right solo functions if you take a look at the line that connects the three buttons. My guess would be, that it either solos the left or right channel, so the sound comes either out of the left or right speaker. Or it outputs either the left or the right channel on both speakers which is easier to listen to.

you can be sure that the main idea behind this program is to promote their own plug-ins. ;)
