I'm not really impressed by his guide so far, but there is some useful stuff in there when he talks about choosing components. Never save money on a good power supply is one of my first recommendations, and I totally agree with minimising the number of components and gadgets on the mobo, and use with your DAW OS, and using a desktop instead of a laptop PC. Laptops are hit and miss for DAWs, usually miss.

Regarding the OS, nicely cut down [no Microsoft bullshit of any kind] LTSC version of Windows 10 rules in my book to base your music workstation OS on, and yes - DPC latency is absolutely important if you want to record something *at low latency* without the crackles. He underestimates the DPC importance, and not explaining its importance or why it's not that important in too much detail.

If you're just fiddling with step sequencers and your mouse at 1024 samples, DPC latency is usually of no importance. This seems to be a guide for musicians who don't know much, or nothing, about setting up a PC for audio.

It's all good. We need such guides, too, definitely!

No offense here that guide is a joke and laughable.

1.30+ services need to be set to disabled and this takes skills 20+ years of skills to know every part of windows to know what to disable and not destroy the OS. With Windows 10 the "Call Center" Scammers at Microsoft tied services together, the only reason why they were tied is so you can not shut them down, yes they even made the services ignore the Windows Registry changes manually LMFAO!!!

    2. Group policy is not 100% enforced even on the Enterprise editions ( another Call Center idea)
Disable all you can in gpedit then follow next steps

    3. The first time in Windows where you need a live Linux ( or Windows on another drive) to actually finish setting up Windows. Use a bootable usb flash drive with linux to delete the Windows Antimalware exe.

    4. The first time in Windows where you have to take ownership of a folder in Program files
    C:\Program Files\WindowsApps

That is the Hidden LOCKED Windows10 apps folder where the moronic Cortana, "EggsBox $3.60" and other stupid apps are installed.

Windows 10 should take about 2 hours to prep up until the CPU, Ram, SSD and the OS is completely silent and dead until you actually move the mouse.

    5. The First time Windows has to be blocked to Microsoft Servers.
Hosts files with Microsoft servers blacklist. I got a good kick out of this one lmfao

Make sure you do not forget to go through the "Privacy Settings" in the new "Crayola Edition" control panel and turn off all the crap on there as well, typing, camera, audio voice. The irony of privacy when EVERYTHING iS ON!!

The culture at Microsoft has changed, an it's clear what Windows 10 is, it is setup as a call center scam tool to gather as much info as possible to sell.

Windows 10 can be tamed but you need some serious Computer Skills to put your foot down on it's throat.

Nlite is useless as it does not address the real problems of setting up Windows 10

After I prep my Windows 10 with all these mods, I use Macrium reflect and clone the OS image over to a 2.5 hard drive using a 3.5" adapter for my desktop caddy slot. The reason is I have a lot of these older 2.5" drives from laptops over the years as SSD's became cheaper.

Having caddie slots in Desktops is not only necessary but very nice as you slide in the drive and copy a full speed.
So I can put in an SSD or any 2.5" drive using a 3.5" adapter, slide in any 3.5" hard drive etc.
Every desktop I have here has the same caddy system.

ORICO CD-ROM Space Internal 3.5 inch SATA HDD Frame/Mobile Rack Internal HDD Case - Black (1106SS)
    25$ each

ORICO 2.5 to 3.5 inch Hard Drive Adapter Converter Mounting Frame Tray for 7/9.5/12.5mm 2.5 inch HDD/SSD with SATA III (Black)
    15$

    Available on amazon.
Tip these are cheap caddies so they will be a bit stiff at first during the first slide ins. I added a bit of white lithium thin grease on the inside rails and used a 3.5" old drive to slide it a couple of times hard to form the shape, after that slides in easier.

No more opening the side cases, caddies are so much better. Transporting large files is easy as I can move the drive from system to system since they all have the same caddy. Since each system is cloned backed up I can pop in the back drive and be running in less than 30 seconds after grabbing the backup drive, slide it in and power up.

Yeah it works properly as intended by Microsoft :)

Does anything still work ? How do you update Windows ? Manually ? how ? please more details.
Why do you use Windows at all and not lets say macOS ?

How exactly are you operating it then? Rewrite the kernel and system services...?

No, I don't have spyware, MS or otherwise, and neither does it phone home. That's a simple 5min task.

I'd rather use my computer to do shit rather than sysadmin it, I get paid to do that.

But to each their own I suppose.

    HI just replying back.

Once these systems are prepped there are no updates done to it unless I manually update to certain critical updates ( more geared toward security than any addon crap)

This is why the main system being updated ( before all system are updated) is cloned to it's backup drive. After the updates are installed, the system is checked parity mode ( file to file compared) so I know what was changed in the system down to individual files and their size.

There has been numerous screw ups with OSX releases as well not just Windows.

And the main reason why I Windows is simple :

I can do what whatever I want to the system, to it's files, make mods, make system file mods, setup custom command batches. Since Mac OS is a closet fest freakshow, I don't have time to screw around with CHMod crap and having to go to a terminal just to get crap done.

Apple hides the underneath part of the OS, this section is not hidden on Windows. In fact the entire Windows sections are available with only a simple right click "Take ownership" to modify.

My network Application privacy mod available at CGPersia is a batch with couple of lines, this would be so convoluted in Mac OS that I did not even want to post it.

Open a text file, write your commands for services, add, remove, copy, execute etc, rename the extension to .bat
    RUN IT, DONE!!

No terminal, no file rights, no OS barking at you.

I do have an old OSX 2009 Imac, 59$ at a clearance store I wanted to grab it, as it has OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Core 2 Duo with Rosetta this was the last Mac to be able to run PowerPC apps!! Nice to be able to run some old school apps.

    Here is the little beast

Windows calls Microsoft Severs quite often and you can't even disable it. Even in basic mode it does send telemetry data

Did I wrote anything that I do so ? no.

same here, I just write facts nothing more or less
