Hello, i'd like to change my speakers. I have Prodipe pro 5.
A friend suggested me the Adam F7, but i don't know if ribbon speakers are a good alternative.
Yamaha HS8 has a good reputation but the air vent is on the rear side, i'd prefer on the front side.
    Does somebody have an idea?
    Thanks.

    Hi,

I have a list of budget and mid-level studio monitors which i had once compiled. It contains product links & reviews. As you will see, there are so many brands/models which we are not aware of but are as good, if not better, than the major league hotshots.

    cheers

Anything above 500$ per a speaker should be a pretty good place to start in my opinion. I feel thats the price where your actually listening to any companies set of good monitors, anything underneath doesn't make sense to me. If your serious about what your doing you'll get the best you can get and if you can't get it due to money constraints you'll do the next best thing. Which is to be patient and save up for something that is gonna be worth your INVESTMENT in the long haul. :mates:

It's a bit too expensive for me, but you're right.

So do you think that some event 20/20 or ADAM F7 would be a higher class?

huh, the look should not be the reason for buying
in a good store you can take monitors at home to check them out... of course with ears, not eyes ;)

I don't think he meant it that literally, but rather that the specs seemed good :)
But yeah, the only way to know for sure if they would be better (or at least really different) than the ones you have is to listen to them. Preferably in your own room and with your own music. Some monitors can actually be better simply depending on the type of music you produce.
And what ghost and Xsze said is true, if you want some really significant change in quality you need to save up for a higher price range.
It's hard to be patient sometimes, but with stuff like this it really pays off in the long run.

    Read me!!!

Long story short, the ports are to compensate for the fact that most low to middle of the road monitors cant actually produce the low frequency content accurately... the companies keep costs down by using ports instead of jacking the costs up... Save up for a decent pair of monitors or just get the ones that sound best to your ear... truth be told, price and name brand pretty much mean nada when it comes to these things... Its more about the space and your ability to listen critically...

Deepcentral - Speed of sound Yes, ADAM A7X would be my choice too. This song on youtube or other of Deepcentral songs, was mixed and mastered on these monitors, cuz' the guys do the mixing and mastering on their own, one is a DJ and the other the vocal artist. Alot of their songs got in the radio tops across Europe countries. Check their other songs too , because they do also pop, not only progressive. They have a VEVO account, what other prove you may need? If they did it, you can do it too, no expensive monitors than the A7X needed. Keep some money for Adams and your you'll be ready2rock ( I don't want to underrate the other monitors brands, is just my advice based on real testing and other users use). Even RedOne has these monitors in one of it's production studios (he got alot of places, damn.) but i think i saw on his table the smaller version, A5X i think.

yes someone mentioned a7x. it really is next step up. but if its to expensive for you, just get a5x. they have same specs, just a smaller woofer. but sometimes people dont even think about the size of their room, they just get speakers with 8 inch cones cause the big shot producers have them. it can be a mistake.
anyhow, check some presentation by aam audio. a5x, a7x have next generation shit tweeters. i cant wait to get them. i just got refused for finance this week for god knows what reasn, so i need to wait a bit longer

dude people that make music on headphones and have won grammys. learn your tools and you'll be good. but just a tip, get your favourite track (high quality) on a cd and walk into a shop and test some monitors out. but then again the environment in the shop might not be the same as in your room so there is a chance that they will be a difference.
what's is wrong with the ones you have now? is your room treated? have you tried placing them in different positions?

anyways, i think for a 5inch monitor, these have amazing reviews.

If you plan on buying ADAMs, take a good listen to them first. Then buy Dynaudio DBM50 or BM6A. :) What I actually meant to say is to make a listening test with as many speakers as you can, with your favourite music that you know well and possibly with your own music, too. Then, *only* then decide.

Give a listen to the Focal's CMS50 or 65, Genelec 8030 or 8040, Tannoy Reveal 601A [I think these are underrated], Yamaha's HS8, KRK's VXT-6 or 8, too. Don't even have a look at KRK Rokits, though [IMO and IME pretty bad].

But never buy speakers only because somebody recommended them. We all hear differently. I find ADAMs too harsh and unpleasant to listen to. That doesn't mean they're bad, but they're not for me. I have Dynaudio BM12As and I'm extremely satisfied with them. However, I am looking to buy a second pair of some smaller monitors like Focal, Genelec or Yamaha just to have more sound references to listen to. I also use Scythe [ 1 full range driver] PC speakers for checkups. Some good Logitech PC speakers are also fine.

I wonder what these Quested S6R and S8R nearfields sound like... I only heard big Quested inwalls and they were excellent. Punchy and detailed, but at the same time easy to listen to. That would be a definition for my perfect monitors.

http://www.audiosite.org/1/post/2011/04/a8x-vs-s8r.html Interesting. I will definitely have a listen to these Quested S8Rs...

    Cheers!

Intresting conversation here I am looking to upgrade monitors too.

One thing I can say is that F7 are kind of down version of A7, just compare at the woofer components.

I looking at Focal, sE Egg Monitors, but I am not convinced by 2way only monitors.

Someone have a suggestion? Please explain, don't just say I use this or that, thanks.
