Is there a version that you can tell it to do nothing?

It's ok if it does something.
What is it doing that you don't want?

    same dude lmao...
sometimes im in a mixing session and then the CPU starts to go all crazy for literally no reason, nothing is up open other than the DAW, no other apps open in the hidden icons menu...
most of the times its some windows update installing in the background or something so i made sure windows update is turned off, but that shit still happens sometimes

Windows 10 is Spyware. You literally have to agree to let yourself be monitored upon installing it. Windows 10 is always doing something in the background. Go to Windows Defender and you better turn off Automatic File Sample Submission which as indicated by the name sends your files to Microsoft. Cortana is always running in the background also if you look in Task Manager. Listening maybe? Cortana has access to both your microphone and camera.

Here is an extract from the Privacy section of the Windows 10 licensing agreement - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Useterms/Retail/Windows/10/UseTerms_Retail_Windows_10_English.htm

"By accepting this agreement and using the software you agree that Microsoft may collect, use, and disclose the information as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement (aka.ms/privacy), and as may be described in the user interface associated with the software features."

If you go to the Privacy Statement (aka.ms/privacy) mentioned by them, they list all the data they collect from your PC. There's no way around this because one must accept the agreement to use the OS. You must agree to be monitored just to use Win10. So try not to do anything illegal guys :winker:

Maybe ask R2R to crack Windows 10 and remove the nasty coding from Microsoft developers.

Why do you think R2R said they crack using a PC that is not connected to the internet?

they should make it open source so real programmer or coders or both can develop a nice tight os whitout bloatware spyware shemallware etc
like the windows xp source was leaked a couple months ago
they should leak the windows 10 source instead or perhaps windows 7

Other than using one of the LTSC versions you can use this to disable most of that background annoyance. O&O ShutUp10 -Free antispy tool for Windows 10 (oo-software.com) Once loaded up go to files/Apply All Settings and reboot, bout as close as you can get to an LTSC version. Defender & windows update are the two most prevalent culprits.

Backgroundtasks are a normal behaviour for every OS. In iX OS'es they are called daemons, in Windows it's mostly system services or planned tasks. Often they are useful or even necessary.

What's the problem with Windows is that those background tasks always seem to start in the worst moment. :snuffy:
But it's quite easy to get rid of a lot of these tasks with open source or freeware tools like Win10privacy. With those tools you can delete or disable all tasks that you don't need or want.

One mistake that I think MS makes with Windows is that you can't really prioritize the different tasks appropriately. If it would be possible to define real priroities, less important tasks would only be executed when nothing is running in the foreground or with a very low CPU/HDD footprint. Then we won't need all this fiddling to get a usable Audio system under Win10.

If it did nothing you would not have to keep buying a faster CPU to keep up with it.
On a serious note I hate it also.

because that's how Windows always worked, it's bad design from the beginning and till nowadays burdened by its legacy and such bloat can't be removed without loosing core functionality,
if you don't like that, don't use Windows

when you disable the unnecessary shit, the remaining things are important and them doesn't slow down the system. also things like project lasso can help a lot (i have it, and together with the things i replied on my other comment, the normal cpu usage is really low and when i'm on my daw it reaches high levels when loads the programm or something like that

    just to name a few...
whole NTFS filesystem designed for slow HDDs is burden in nowadays ages of SSDs,
registry by design aren't something to remove,
memory management and pooling is design from era of Vista where 2Gigs were not enough and inefficient swapping was mandatory,
low-latency professional audio engine is still nonexistent even after decades,
DPC latency by design is something which cannot be fixed

it's a mandatory process to unify and manage running processes, like desktop, drivers etc.., sometimes it can freak out because of broken process being supervised,
again, another relic from Vista days when RAM was premium thing

Windows 10 disappointed me the useless apps it have is makes the whole experience laggy and tiredsome without heavily modifications is quite something else than useful operating system users should not need to resource on hardcore modifications to make the os working fast and without annoyances

Operating system is supposed to do "something" when your pc is on. It's like starting your car and complaining about the engine doing something.
By the way it is "millions" of different debloat software out there for Windows 10. Also be sure you don't have a lot of crap in the startup menu.
You can do extreme debloating and optimizing when you follow videos like this:
