Im wondering what everybodys favourite File Explorer is for organising files and folders so that you can see different folders at the same time on the screen

I know you can snap Windows Explorer to the edges of the screen and have them perfectly divided, but wondering if anybody can reccomend anything more advanced or with a better workflow?

    Thanks

i dont habe any extra explorer. but if you have multiple monitors or a wide screen monitor, i can recommand you microsoft PowerToys
    https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys

in PowerToys you can find FancyZones, where u are able to customize an add those "edges"
just watch a video on youtube...

I use (very old) Novatix ExplorerPlus. Not sure it works with win 10 though.
    Simple,
    divided pans,
    ftp,as a local folder
    customizable short cut bar,
include a viewer for multiple formats of images , text, audio.
    Filter
    Very good search function
    Sync function to do backups
Compare folders to look for dupes
Create and open zip archives, handle compressed file type ZIP, RAR, CAB, LHA, TAR
    Connect to local network.

Note: 6.2 is the latest working version, later ones were not properly cracked.

    I use Total Commander.

The Plus is, it has two panes and it's really easy to copy or move files this way,
    - you can automate and
    - set several default paths for both panes for directories you use a lot,
    - integrated packer/unpacker,
    - integrated FTP client ...
    - helps easily rename a lot of files at once
    - split and merge packed files for a given file size
    - ...
It's mostly the old Norton Commander of the DOS days when there was no explorer.
Hence, it doesn't try to imitate Explorer but has its own logic, which seems more intuitive to me than Explorer's.

There is probably no "best" Explorer replacement, you should choose the one that suits you best.

Total Commander rule them all it is simply the best period!!
I cant work on a computer without having Total Commander installed
As it uses two panels moving files is so easy
Unpack rarfiles is so easy you never need to unpack it to a new folder set it so both panels show the same folder (or another disc/folder if you want that of course) and just click on the yellow rar file and click F5 on the keyboard.
And it also has a pretty good renaming option in it as you can rename multiple folder i dont know of any renaming app that can do that i'm not sure though but i havent tested a renaming app that can rename folders and i have tested alot.
I also has it set up to show hidden system files so i can edit hidden those if i want to.

It doesn't. Sysmantec bought & destroyed them. :snuffy:

From Win 10 forum: "I've been using ExplorerPlus (free) in Windows XP (32 bit) & love it. However, it doesn't work properly in Windows 10 (64-bit). Symantic bought out Novatix & discontinued it."

Jeffrey C Johnson, inventor of the graphic directory tree & author of XTree and XTreeGold.

    What happened to XTreeGold ?
It was removed by a corporate clean sweep.

The XTree Company was sold to Central Point Software in the fall of 1993. The company was closed, XTreeGold was shelved, and the CEO of Central Point proclaimed "Business is Winning". A few months later Central Point was sold to Symantec and I was terminated one week before my stock vested.

Answers to frequently asked questions : )

NO I had nothing to do with the sale of XTree and was the last employee to be told the company had been sold. The news was shocking; the idea of never producing another version of XTree had not crossed my mind before that day.

NO I never received a dime from Microsoft when file manager was added to the Windows computing juggernaut.

imo Windows Explorer is enough. XYplorer has scripting support and all, but if you need to script better learn python. Most of its functions seem redundant and in no way does it extend the features of Windows Explorer. It doesn't look modern either. If you need a better search tool, there's Everything which is much cleaner and easier to use, free as well. If you need to rename a bunch of files/folders, there's nothing better than Bulk Rename Utility. Plus you can always extend Windows Explorer through context menu so you can extract archives and do what not. There's PowerToys which lets you preview a lot more types of file from explorer. Then there's Google Drive Sync and OneDrive both which are closely integrated with Explorer and devs can make their own as well. Believe me, explorer's already got you covered

OT: That's why I won't buy a n y t h i n g from Symantec. The real "buy & destroy" company (Even worse than M$, The "buy & screw up Company", they try and just fail most of the time , said by a Win10 user ).
