hello guys
my step son is 10yrs old and i just bought him a new PC Desktop for christmas and he is very happy with it..but he came to me all nervously and said he thinks he might of caught a virus. i ended up running a scan which came back positive so i quarantined the files.. he is really into games like fortnite, obviously he is 10.. but what i'm wondering is there a Game Site similar to our sister site that has games that he can download kinda safely "i know nothing is full proof" and i showed him how to check if the file is ok and to keep the computer running clean and fast. i'm not sure if you can send me links via post so if you have any suggestions for me i'd greatly appreciate a PM from someone that knows their way around the gaming scene

 

I know a secure site Ill send it, but please try to manage how much hes gaming cause theres already way too many vidya game manchildren running around nowadays

 

okay here's what to do.. point this to the game you've downloaded.. if temperature high means virus, if low means safe..

I recommend FitGirl Repacks: very safe site with good reputation, just like the sister site. However, because of this, it has many unsafe clones, so please make sure to use the original .site, not .co, .website or other. I would recommend to bookmark it.

Also secondally yea theres an amazing site which has all the best games you can download at your fingertips granted you have to add a shop to your pc but thats not a big issue as its virus free and zero issues running it. Its called steam and its amazing has all the best games on it. Theres others to like battle net and the epic gamestore.

10 is too young to expect him to be able to manage a PC alone, add to that expecting him to manage downloading cracked games? You're asking for trouble.

 

I disagree, I was 7 when I started gaming. Granted it was on an Atari 2600, but it set me up for a lifetime of tech knowledge

 

backup is the best virus scanner and time saver

 

i started gameing when i was 5 yeares old on a sega master system but did not get my own pc untill i was able to afford to build one myself because i didnt have dumb parents.
Plus anyway with crackerd games say 95 percent of them you cantplay online anyway so if he does want to play with his friends hes fucked.

what most posters here fail to realize is that the kid is 10 and likes fornite. most cracked games don't support online multiplayer. Best answer to op post has been answered with the reddit link and the fitgirl mentioning. If the kid likes single player games those mentioned would be a goldmine. other than that goodluck

I would recommend to let him experiment more,
Viruses usually don't hurt hardware, keep a usb stick with windows around.
stress what would be consequence for local files when virus does wreck the windows installation.

And to go a little bit off-topic:
Let them learn to do time management on their computer time directly from the start.
I use Microsoft family to restrict screen time on my 11y daughter her computer.

at first this will be just annoying to them, but eventually this had the following effects:

1. She does not skip social interactions ('play-dates'), just to be able to play at home. Less screen time means she does outside and get some exercise or read a book.
   
2. Especially in the 'rob-lox' universe she started to get insightful about time wasting games.
3. I get to check what content she is exposed to.
4. She beats her mom at 'google game'
   
5. And since I know what applications are being used on her devices, I have great conversation starters.

Is it all good?

no, the internet is full of predators. statistically she can't have been online for this long without being approached by weirdos.
That I didn't find any proof for that thus far, does not mean that is did not happen.
I think it did and she responded well by blocking/deleting inappropriate approaches.

The biggest problem ATM is that TikTok in enormously popular in her surroundings.
Which can only be considered as toxic mind waste.

I would highly recommend restricting social media sites at least till they are 13y old.
unless you want your 10 year old dabbling with hot topics about sexuality and all the complications that come with that.

i got my 1st gaming computer when i was 9.. the commodore 64.. AND i was playing pirated games on it.. except EA games.. copy protection on those were the devil at that time..
