    Hi everybody.

I've been away a lot of time from windows but i am switching again from mac.

Since i have an apollo thunderbolt 3 audio interface i need windows 10. I would like to ask, which edition and release of windows 10 is recommended in your experience for music production?

    Thanks for the help.

i've seen a lot of people with win 10 pro... i use home with some ''mod'' and it's functional tbh... so, as long as you have a good desktop/laptop, any windows should work....

and, as especific release, between 1909 and 2009

It really depends on your needs but I run Pro and am more than happy with it. There's some additional capabilities that you have with Enterprise but nothing that pertains to music production.

I think LTSC is the proper one for an audio computer.

I use home, but would probably pick Pro version if I bought it today. And found a cheap license on ebay...

Windows 10 LTSC without a doubt, ive also disabled alot of useless Microsoft services and stripped the system further, also you can lock useless features down using the Group Policy Editor

Or you could try "Windows 10 Chinese Government Edition" (if you can read Chinese)

After we got so many presents fom R2R, I wanted to have a fresh install of the 'latest and greatest' Windows 10 ;-)
So I've just installed the latest Win 10 20H2 (Pro N) with his advices..

(I had one problem with his AME script. Maybe it's not working with the latest Windows?)

I will report how it's working as a music only PC.
Update 1: Softube releases not showing up in Samplitude Pro X5 and latest Reaper.

Running Windows 10 Pro for Workstations 20H2. Improved memory, HDD, SSD, NVMe access. Very snappy.
Did normal optimization tweaks but, did not use the debloat script on this fresh install.

There are further tweaks that can be done to reduce active services depending on how your system is used. For hybrid use light tweaking. For mainly audio/video use heavy tweaks can be done. Do a web search for unnecessary Windows 10 services to get an idea of what may work for you.

Absolutely the Pro Version, because of Group Policy full settings access (disable Cortana, disable Auto-Updates, disable Driver-Updates etc..)

When Win 10 came out, I installed it on a spare drive, but it also installed parts of itself on other drives - a disaster, I had to restore the entire Win7 PC from a Backup.

I've got Win 10 Enterprise Gen2 on an ASUS Prime B250 Pro with 64GB RAM. Incredibly slow until I installed W10Privacy and removed all the telemetry and spyware.

I installed Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control, NO updates, NO Anti-Virus and Studio One flies like a bird. I connect to my local internet, but I use a separate PC to access the outer world, so I don't have to worry about virii.

I use KMSpico Activator. I would NEVER give Microshite and evil Bill Gates a cent of my hard earned money!

Windows 10 1809 LTSC [Enterprise], by Ghostmod is a really nice lite version of it without any MS shit. It takes 1GB of memory on startup and it works very smoothly and problem-free. All untweaked ones use at least 2GB. The only one thing I don't like is the colour scheme, and it is hard to tweak them in Windows 10. Thankfully there's dark mode now. However, you often encounter a white window. MS... It's a Frankenstein OS.

If you like full versions, look up for v1809 or 1909 LTSC [Enterprise] from {gen2} - Generation 2. These are the two I found to be the most reliable, but I do prefer the Ghostmod lite version. It works great. You can find a lot of different W10 versions at TeamOS forum.

Windows 10 is full of shit in itself, though, and the last great Windows were XP, IMHO. I find it incredibly strange that you have to edit registry just to edit the colours to your liking in W10. It is an incredibly stupid and confusing OS. It also looks like that, too.

Shame there are so many great plugins for Windows. And MacOS is getting more and more stupid since about Mojave, too. That's what happens when corporations develop an OS. They get profit, you get a bigger hole in the arse.

The collection of VST and LV2 plugins for Linux is steadily growing, though...

Go for the Pro version. It will give you everything you need for security in case your computer is net connected! I use a tb3 interface with zero problems.
