I would recommend the budget Soundcraft desks above any Behringer offering.
They aren't made in the UK any more, but in China. But they're still alright.

i don't think he's actually looking for a mixer. it sounds like he's looking for a control surface for a daw.

having said that, i'm not sure what your budget is, but my friend has a behringer x32 and he loves it. it is both a mixer and a daw controller. it is marketed as a mixer, but right out of the box, you have compatibility with pro tools, logic, cubase, studio one, and nearly any other asio or core audio–compatible daw.

if you don't really need a mixer, and really are just looking for a daw control surface, you should look at these three first (in order from most expensive to least expensive):

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Faderport16--presonus-faderport-16-production-controller

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FaderPort8--presonus-faderport-8-production-controller

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XTouch--behringer-by-touch-universal-control-surface/reviews

and if i have completely misjudged your budget, here is the least expensive daw controller that offers some really nice features, but not nearly what the ones above have.

They're all the same kinda, the biggest difference what software you'll be using it with and the kind of support you'll get for that. Control surfaces mean much less than they did before.
If you needed to ask this, you're trying to run before you can walk. You don't need this and you won't know what you "need" to buy or what it's used for. Spare yourself the expense, come back once you know you have a specific problem that you're trying to solve with a device like this.

A few more controls surface options:

    Nektar P1 $299 U.S.

    Softube Console 1 Fader $649 U.S.

Forgive me. Title said "Mixer". I saw the Presonus reference, but I decided this was an aside option from "Mixer".
This seemed to fit with "Mixer".
    But this:
    ...is possible.
In the UK, we say Mixer for mixing desk (US = soundboard).

This seemed to fit "I see people on Youtube using these mixers in their studios, which one do I get and how do I use one". Which means at this stage it's literally pointless to get one. You don't get this stuff until you know why you need it, there's no benefit of just having stuff around when you don't know how you can benefit from it and what the reason for having one might be.

Edit: OP, no offence here - I think what you wanted to ask is:
    - what the difference between a mixer and control surface is
    - how can it be better over using a keyboard and mouse
    - what other devices you need to be able to hook it up
So I'm steering the people responding here to what your issue actually is.

    @Pure Energy
    Hi.
Perhaps ignore the mixing desk/board advice! Sorry.
If you're planning on recording a vocal, acoustic guitar, guitar cab, or more, then you will want a simple interface.
The Fader8, which I see looks like a great product, is just for controlling your daw. No sound in or out.

Let's help you spend your money and get you on your journey!
    Wys?

@Pure Energy I have read a lot of the replies and people are all over the place because you seem confuse as to what you really need. You have several options out there. Let us start with Fader Port 8 or 16. It is mainly a fader controller with limited DAW controls without any inputs and outpus. In order to use the Faderport or Softtube's Console 1 Fader or Icon Pro Audio QCon Pro G2 you need an audio interface. Also missing from Faderport are several features that Presonus should have included. One of them is panning. also there is no FX routing. Therefore, everything just takes place inside the DAW. In other words, Fader Port is just a fader controller w/ limited DAW interaction. There is also Avid Artist Mix full of functionality.

The next group are dedicated DAW controllers some will have inputs and outputs such as the SSL Nucleus. It comes with a pair of SSL preamps plus SSL Duende native plugins. Routing is what you expect in a mixing console, and DAW control is excellent form the desk. SSL Nucleus is currently on sale brand new for just $3,800.

The third group are the mixing consoles with DAW control for $5000 or less such as Midas 32M, and 32r, Behringer WING, and x32, Soundcraft Si Series, Allen Heath SQ, and Qu Series, and Presonus Live Series among others. These mixers offer 16,32, 48, or more input channels. Have native FX. The routing and monitoring capabilities are excellent. Therefore, you have great flexibility. In this group I will go WING or Midas, Allen Heath, Presonus, and Soundcraft in descending order. Be aware that the pre amps, and faders on the Soundcraft units suck. Best pre amps are found in the WING and Midas which are different from those in the Behringer X32. Don't buy the "designed by Midas" crap that Behringer tells you.

With that said, if you decide to go the Faderport way, or opt for a WING or Midas or Soundcraft, send me a PM. I can get you one of those units new (open box) for a little bit more than half of the MSRP.

Edit: For lazy people that don't want to use Google.

Im surprised that (as he's talking about Cubase) nobody has mentioned Yamaha (as they are owned by the same company and have high instigation as they both use the same Yamaha/Cubase driver) - Yamaha 01V96i Digital Mixer - https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/yamaha-01v96i
